Travel Pungo #4 - Around Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm (Bilingual)

Saturday (20/1/2018) I visited Angkor Wat in Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia. Angkor Wat is one of Cambodia's major tourist destinations and one of the biggest foreign exchange contributors to the country Pol Pot once ruled.

Before I left for Cambodia, I heard Angkor Wat several times mentioned. I even suggested coming to Angkor Wat. According to them, anyone who comes to Cambodia is obliged to visit one of Cambodia's landmark temples. "Later do not forget to Angkor Wat, bang," the sentence that I often hear.

The flight route we selected to Cambodia via Siem Reap International Airport, one of the busiest airports in Cambodia. Many foreign tourists choose this airport when visiting Cambodia. Siem Reap was transformed as the most important tourist area in Southeast Asia. It is reasonable to say that the US dollar is the main currency in Cambodia.

In addition to Angkor Wat as the main temple, there are a number of other temples that are not less important to visit. For example, Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, Ta Prohm Temple, Banteay Srei, and many more. Each temple has its own characteristics and also in whose time the temple was built. It is said that every king in Cambodia built his own temple as a place of worship. That's why there are so many temples in Cambodia.

Prior to Angkor Wat, I was curious about this historic site that used to be a Hindu and Buddhist temple. According to the Wikipedia site, Angkor Wat was built by King Suryawarman II in the middle of the 12th century, which supposedly took 30 years. There are several small temples within the Angkor Wat complex, with Angkor Wat as the main tower.

I had time to count the number of stairs when climbing to the main tower. If not one count, the staircase amounted to 47 pieces. The stairs to go up and down the main tower are made separately. We have to queue for hours to get to the main tower so much the number of visitors. Before climbing the stairs, we will be given the identification by the officers near the stairs. The identifier should be returned when it descends.

Although Angkor Wat is very famous, but I'm more interested in Ta Prohm Temple, an ancient temple partly destroyed by wooden roots. This temple became special because it was once used for the shooting location of the movie Tomb Raider. The temple was built by King Jayavarman VII dedicated to his mother.

For those of you who have ever watched the movie Tomb Raider, you will definitely be more familiar with this place. Even you can see from near the location where Angelina Jolie ever stand. The location where the sexy lips actress actress was clashing acting with Cambodian boy became a seizure of visitors to pose and berselfie ria. To take pictures in this place must be queued. I was not lucky at the time, because I could not stand waiting for the queue.

To this temple, we must go through a path that is left-right full of shrubs and trees. We must get into the forest to reach the location of this temple. Tiredness and foot cramps so do not feel. The impression that this temple is hundreds of years old immediately visible from the root of the tree that destroyed this part of the temple.

At first I thought the oak or banyan tree destroyed the temple. But, from the literature I had read, the Cambodians called the temple-crushing tree with Spung. In some corners we can see how ferocious this tree destroyed the temple, its roots stuck to the walls of the temple, like the behavior of parasites.

As I walked out of the main area of ​​the temple, I saw some Cambodian boys playing in the crevice of the tree roots. Berkeliling di Angkor Wat dan Ta Prohm

Sabtu (20/1/2018) aku mengunjungi Angkor Wat di Angkor, Siem Reap, Kamboja. Angkor Wat merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata utama di Kamboja dan termasuk salah satu penyumbang devisa terbesar bagi negara yang pernah diperintah Pol Pot itu.

Sebelum berangkat ke Kamboja, aku beberapa kali mendengar kata Angkor Wat disebut. Aku bahkan disarankan datang ke Angkor Wat. Menurut mereka, siapa pun yang datang ke Kamboja wajib berkunjung ke salah satu komplek kuil yang menjadi landmark Kamboja itu. "Nanti jangan lupa ke Angkor Wat, bang," begitu kalimat yang sering kudengar.

Rute penerbangan yang kami pilih ke Kamboja melalui Siem Reap International Airport, salah satu bandara tersibuk di Kamboja. Banyak turis asing memilih bandara ini jika berkunjung ke Kamboja. Siem Reap pun menjelma sebagai kawasan turis paling penting di Asia Tenggara. Cukup beralasan jika dollar Amerika menjadi mata uang utama di Kamboja.

Selain Angkor Wat sebagai kuil utama, ada sejumlah kuil lain yang tak kalah penting untuk dikunjungi. Misalnya, Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, Ta Prohm Temple, Banteay Srei, dan masih banyak lagi. Masing-masing kuil memiliki karakteristik tersendiri dan juga pada masa siapa kuil itu dibangun. Konon, setiap raja di Kamboja membangun kuil sendiri sebagai tempat beribadah. Itulah kenapa banyak sekali kuil di Kamboja.

Sebelum ke Angkor Wat, aku sempat penasaran dengan situs bersejarah ini yang dulunya pernah menjadi kuil Hindu dan Buddha. Menurut situs Wikipedia, Angkor Wat dibangun oleh Raja Suryawarman II pada pertengahan abad ke-12, yang konon memakan waktu selama 30 tahun. Ada beberapa kuil kecil di dalam kompleks Angkor Wat, dengan Angkor Wat sebagai menara utama.

Aku sempat menghitung jumlah anak tangga ketika naik ke menara utama. Jika tak salah hitung, anak tangganya berjumlah 47 buah. Tangga untuk naik dan turun menara utama dibuat terpisah. Kita harus antri berjam-jam untuk bisa ke menara utama saking banyaknya jumlah pengunjung. Sebelum naik tangga, kita akan diberikan tanda pengenal oleh petugas di dekat anak tangga. Tanda pengenal itu harus dikembalikan ketika turun.

Meski Angkor Wat sangat terkenal, tapi aku lebih tertarik pada Ta Prohm Temple, sebuah kuil kuno yang sebagiannya hancur karena akar kayu. Kuil ini menjadi istimewa karena pernah digunakan untuk lokasi syuting film Tomb Raider. Kuil ini dibangun oleh raja Jayavarman VII yang khusus dipersembahkan untuk ibunya.

Bagi Anda yang pernah menonton film Tomb Raider, kalian pasti akan lebih akrab dengan tempat ini. Bahkan kalian bisa lihat dari dekat lokasi di mana Angelina Jolie pernah berdiri. Lokasi tempat si aktris pemilik bibir seksi itu beradu akting dengan bocah Kamboja menjadi rebutan pengunjung untuk berpose dan berselfie ria. Untuk berfoto di tempat ini pun harus antri. Saya tidak beruntung saat itu, karena tidak tahan menunggu antrian.

Menuju kuil ini, kita harus melalui jalan setapak yang di kiri-kanan penuh dengan semak belukar dan pepohonan. Kita harus masuk ke dalam hutan untuk mencapai lokasi kuil ini. Rasa lelah dan kaki keram jadi tak terasa. Soalnya, begitu tiba di lokasi kuil kita seperti diajak melihat bangunan yang sudah sangat tua. Kesan bahwa kuil ini berusia ratusan tahun segera tampak dari akar pohon yang menghancurkan bagian kuil ini.

Awalnya aku mengira pohon oak atau beringin yang menghancurkan kuil itu. Tapi, dari literatur yang sempat kubaca, orang Kamboja menyebut pohon penghancur kuil dengan Spung. Di beberapa sudut kita bisa melihat betapa ganasnya pohon ini menghancurkan candi, akarnya menempel di dinding-dinding kuil, seperti perilaku parasit.

Sewaktu berjalan keluar dari areal utama candi, aku melihat beberapa bocah Kamboja bermain di celah akar pohon. Mereka begitu sigap dengan gaya layaknya model profesional saat turis mulai membidik mereka. "One dollar!" Kata mereka. Turis Rusia yang hendak mengabadikan mereka, hanya tertawa. Lalu, dia pun berlalu, tanpa memberikan apa-apa. []
