After very relaxing 2 days in Switzerland (See Part 1: Berlin to Switzerland) we got back on the road to Corsica. This time we would take a short break from driving and enjoy Lake Como (Yes, the George Clooney House one) from above and later that day board the ferry in Savona that will take us within 6 hours to Bastia in Corsica.
If you ever get a chance to drive from Switzerland to Italy, do it. The road is amazing. I wish i would have been not the driver this day and could enjoy the view without stopping every few kilometers. Still, great experience.
The fastest you can drive in Switzerland is 120 km/h, but most of the times 80km/h. But let’s be honest, even if i could drive faster, i still wouldn't. First its way to dangerous considering all the serpentines, bridges and tunnels. And second the nature is way to beautiful to just rush through it.
Arriving in Italy. Good we are in European Union. No unnecessary waiting at the border. Just driving through.
I wish i could have taken more pictures in Como. Unfortunately, it was way to chaotic there and the little roads up to hill (for the best view of the lake) were so narrow, that 2 cars did not fit next to each other.
The driving was fun, but extremely exhausting. Once the peaked was reached, it was clear that all the trouble was worth it.
Short break and a good Italian Americano later back on the road. 3 hours later the destination of the day, Savona, was reached. The car check in was easy and fast. Now we had to wait for the ferry to arrive.
Some nasty food and a beer felt just perfect.
Finally our ride was here.
Boarding was very slow and annoying. The whole process seemed to be very chaotic. But once we've got on board it all made sense. The cars were arranged after size and the weight. No wonder it took almost 1,5 hours to board all cars. Tetris advanced level.
While booking the ferry ticket, we had a possibility also to book a room for 80 Euros extra. We didn't. It seems to be way too much for a 5 hours night ride. Once on board it was pleasant to see that the majority of the passengers did not book a room either and were simply sleeping on the floor all over the ship. In the restaurant, bars, hallways, between the tables. Simply everywhere. Bed time :)
It was a very short night. 3,5 hours later it was time to wake up and slowly getting ready for arrival in Corsica. But first a good morning view :)
Luckily, we were the last ones to get on board and the first ones to leave the boat. Corsica, here we come!
