Boracay Island : A Hub for Water Activities

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

A trip to the Philippines wouldn’t be complete without paying homage to Boracay, a bona fide paradise that sets the benchmark as the preeminent beach in the country. Boracay Island, located off the northwest corner of Panay Island, maintains its credibility as one of the most sought-after tropical tourist spots in the world.

There are many reasons why vacationers from different parts of the world choose Boracay as their holiday destination. But perhaps the most exciting Boracay experience, and most loved by visitors, is the famous White Beach. Boracay continues to entice beach loving tourists to its sun bleached shores of talcum powder white sand that never get hot even in the afternoon sun. The greatest appeal is the tranquility you feel while lying on the beach and admiring the scenery. Complemented by the palm-studded sand, balmy breeze and glistening turquoise water, White Beach has been the center of all the Boracay’s commercials.

Only those who have visited can attest to how beautiful this island truly is. However, if you have never been to, then you might want to read on.

Boracay offers a variety of sea sports suitable for water and diving enthusiasts. These are the must-try for those who are looking for something beyond mere swimming and snorkeling, where adrenaline junkies can get their satisfaction from some boat-towed action, high altitudes, and some splashing “wind in hair” moments.

So without further ado, here are some of the best water sports activities in Boracay to please your thirst for action. :

1st : Parasailing

image.jpg

Top of the list and is the favorite of many is Parasailing. Your trip will begin by signing up with their friendly staff in the booth. Then, you will be given life jackets and safety instructions. When was the last time you did something for the first time? I would say parasailing is a great experience for a few adventure-minded individuals. This is a popular activity where riders can experience “flying” and enjoy the view of the beautiful shoreline of white beach from above while being pulled by a boat. Imagine being whisked into the sky while strapped in a seat covered by a colorful parachute! This is a fun and exciting experience for those who love heights and want a birds-eye-view of the whole island. For those who are scared of heights, it doesn't really seem like that at all. I wasn't expecting it to be that smooth. Face your fears head on and they become nothing more than a new love. By the way, don't forget to bring out a camera! Either take it up with you for amazing aerial shots or leave it with the crew for shots of you from down below. Trust me, you wouldn't want to miss this on your Boracay trip.

2nd : Banana Boat

image.jpg

Hop on right from the shore and hang on for a fun and scenic ride. This is a cool way to share some thrills on the waves as a group of up to six or eight, depending on the size and capacity of the craft. It's a fast-paced bumpy rodeo ride on this inflatable banana-shaped craft towed by a boat. Each passenger has a handlebar to hold on to in front of them, which must be grasped very tightly in order for you to hang on without being flipped overboard.

image.jpg

The excitement of the ride is heightened by increasing the speed and rate of turn of the speedboat. Well, what definitely happens is a lot of laughter, screams of delight and a great time for all. Your tour guide will keep you safe while having loads of fun throughout your ride.

3rd : Helmet Diving

image.jpg

Channel your inner mermaid through Helmet Diving! This extraordinary marine trip starts with an exhilarating speedboat ride from the beach to a wide raft in the middle of the sea. After a brief orientation, the much-anticipated aquatic immersion takes place.

image.jpg

Upon descending the ladder, the oxygen-pumped helmet which is attached to a hose and air compressor will be put on your head and with the guidance of a dive master, you will slowly transcend into the watery abyss of sandy seabed and coral reefs, inhabited by vibrant fishes.

image.jpg

I was a little nervous back then since I can't swim and will be totally immersed in water but this is one of the best experiences I had! No swimming skills required and a chance to see the beauty underneath. You’ll get a firsthand look at these aquatic marvels as you feed them with pinches of bread. After the fifteen-minute long helmet dive, you will be set to ascend to the surface with your helmet diving experience digitally documented.

4th : Jet Ski

image.jpg

Your vacation wouldn't be complete without a fun jet ski ride! Learning to ride a jet ski can be a bit of giggle, until you get the hang of it. And I was a quick learner! At first, the instructor was the one holding the wheel so he can instruct me how to use it. He showed me the proper safety precautions, how to start the engine and how to move forward. He went a clockwise direction along the floating containers which serves as markers. After the first round, he went back to the raft and I drive solo until I was roaring along at a high speed. I enjoyed the blistering pace and gliding the waves was simply amazing! This is definitely an awesome, exciting ride that really gives you some good bounce especially when proceeding at full throttle.

The fun doesn’t end at sunset in Boracay. Nightly entertainments like fire dancing and all of the catering services with modern amenities like bars and restaurants are open till midnight. There’s something for everybody when it comes to satisfying the appetite.

I wish you could all see Boracay for yourselves. It's hard to put everything into words or even pictures!

Experience the best of Boracay! Be kind to the locals, be gentle to the natural beauty of the island and engage yourself in everything good the Boracay has to offer you.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, @jassennesaj! I really appreciate them. 😊

Great photos! Thank you for the post! Helmet diving seems pretty scary!!!😱 Doesn't it feel like you are trapped? It does seem like a cool experience though and I did not know that helmet diving existed :-)

Thank you @tabealouise! No, it doesn't seem like that. You should try it, you'll surely love what it feels like to be down there. 😊

Thanks for the reply! I will definitey try it out when I get the chance. The experience does seem like fun when you get over the initial fear :-)

Looks like @sweetsssj may have some competition on here. People like to watch pretty girls vacation. You will go far. Congrats on your first big post! I'v been on here for a few months, I've had some success but not like some people have.

I've been traveling and backpacking for about 10 years. I write post from a real expereinced budget traveler perspective. I do travel reports, tips, and updates. I think you'd find them interesting.

The Philippians are beautiful. I spent a couple weeks in Moal Boal. Are you traveling around the globe like myself? I always like to connect with other travelers on here. Where are you from? Where are you going next?

Looks like you had a very nice day with all the fun activities. Next time in the Philippians I'll surely be going to Boracay.

Thanks for sharing

Hi @world-travel-pro! I am humbled. I don't consider myself in competition with anyone. Besides, I've just started. I still have a lot of things to discover. 😊

The people of the Philippines are called Filipinos, not Philippians. "Filipina" refers to a female Filipino. I'm from Cebu City. You may read my introductory post if you want to know more about me. 😊

Sorry about getting the Filipina name wrong. Not very World Travel Pro of me...lol.

None of us here are in competition, and that's a great attitude to have. You're post just reminds me of that girl that has had huge success on here. I think if she can do it, you can too!

I'll go ahead and read your intro. Keep up the good work.

@belvaj . I told you! They will surely recognize you as @sweetsssj <3

It's great to have you on Steemit, Belva, and thanks for a terrific post!

Hi @donkeypong! Thank you so much. I am deeply honored. I've heard a lot of good things about you from @jassennessaj. I got some ideas on how to improve my writing skills. However, I am always eager to learn new things. I would be happy to stay in touch. 😊

Hi @kissthebottle. Wow, that's good to know! However, I recommend you to book a trip to visit some other islands and at least spend the night at any of them. I can assure you, there's no way you will regret visiting the Philippines. 😊

This is great advice and I am planning a night on one of the islands within boat range :)
Any favourites?

Good job, and exciting adventure

Truly thought out! Congrats on the new adventure!!
