Earth Day celebrations make me think of the great joy of being inside Fingal’s Cave on the Isle of Staffa, Scotland. Here I was surrounded by the basalt columns of the great volcanic flow that covered a vast swath between Northern Ireland and Scotland. Since then the relentless Atlantic has been carving out the cave. With two lads from neighboring Iona I overnighted on the island so we could light the interior at 4:00 AM and also capture the first blue light of dawn. Happy Earth Day.
