Jamaica, Reggae, Weed and I [including illegal trip to a marijuana plantation]

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

Jamaica is a Paradise, where you can hear reggae sounds from everywhere and every passer-by has a blunt and a serene smile on the face.

Let's get started

Since I was a child I had been dreaming to go there and finally a couple of years ago my dream came true.
The tickets were on discount: Vilnius=>Brussels=>Punta-Cana=>Kingston, so I bought a return ticket for a song, $700. Quite a nice price for a dream, isn’t it?

A little bit of history

From one side Jamaica is washed by the mighty Atlantic Ocean, dark blue and wild, from the other there is the Caribbean Sea, light blue and mild. How beautiful, fun, wild and extraordinary it is!

The hotel was chosen in one of the most picturesque and, if to judge upon reviews, the safest neighborhood on the island – Negril. It is located in an ecologically friendly area, the only one in Jamaica where you can’t find any industrial enterprises. What’s more, all the buildings there are not higher than palm trees , which makes an impression of pristine nature and preserves the uniqueness of genuine Jamaica.

The Residence

So that’s where my hotel called "Grand Pineapple Beach" is, with its enormous well-maintained territory, a swimming pool and a giant chess board. First of all, it is really good value for money, secondly, the food is delicious and, thirdly, the staff is both friendly and fun. You can often see cooks and waiters emerging in the dining hall to dance and sing with the guests. I totally do recommend this hotel to everyone!

A Childhood Dream

Out of 14 unforgettable days spent in Jamaica I will always remember one. On this day my most cherished dream came true – I swam with a dolphin! (The dream cost me $120)

The Bob Marley Museum

The first two things that caught my eye were the Bob Marley memorial and the Ethiopian flag streamed in the wind (the rastaman movement is said to have originated from Ethiopian Falasha-jews). Thousands of tourists and music lovers annually visit this fascinating Kinston site. The excursion costs $20, but it’s totally worth it. The most awesome thing is that this historic site is indeed the real former house of Bob Marley.

The Blue Mountains

The locals believe that when visiting Jamaica you have to do at least three things: listen to reggae, taste local delicacies and visit the Bob Marley museum. However, there are much more wonderful places to see, so let me tell you about some of them. First, there is a national park called The Blue Mountains. Not only is it the highest but also the most popular coffee spot. Right there, on the slopes, grows the most expensive and the rarest sort of coffee – “Blue Mountain”. What’s more, from the top you can observe the whole island and even spot Cuba, “la isla de liberdad”, from the distance. This national park is truly remarkable, truly magical.

My Favorite Bar Ever

One more location I just couldn’t miss was of course the world-famous Rick’s Café, one of the top 10 bars in the world, and believe me, it’s not only about the drinks. There you can dive into the water from 2 cliffs, 3.9 meters (12.8 feet) and 11 meters (36 feet) high! (Honestly, I was brave enough to do only 3.9:)). In this bar every evening local musicians play reggae while you can enjoy most spectacular sunsets ever as a bonus.

Marijuana Plantation

Well, last but not least, I want to tell you a story about my trip to a marijuana plantation. I’m not posting the geolocation here, for obvious reasons )) however, if someone needs the driver’s phone number, I might occasionally find it on my contact list )) for $15 you can both see it and try it.

So, here are some pics I’ve taken

All in all, Jamaica is a place I want to come back to one day and I am pretty sure I will.
