Thai New Year - Songkran

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

Easy way to feel happiness just like in childhood!

The word Songkran is derived from Sanskrit and means "Astrological Passage". Traditionally, the dates for the festival were set by Brahmin priests, but these days the dates are fixed. The Thai New Year's Day is 13 April every year.

As the April is Thailand’s hottest month, a bucket of water in face on the road was greatly assist!

It was fun to watch how the police work in the middle of a "water war". All are equal!

White talc is also thrown in copious amounts and the city’s streets soon resemble the aftermath of a snow storm.

One should also keep one’s camera fully clothed – without waterproof housing, it’s likely to fall victim to the watery shenanigans.

In that day water completely killed my iPhone 4s.

But anyway it was an unforgettable day!

Thank you for watching!
