Since we were driving our van through Bulgaria we were able to stop at some off the beaten path places along the way. As soon as we heard about Buzludzha we knew we just had to get there. This crazy building is the former meeting house of the Bulgarian Communist Party and lies abandoned on the top of a hill in Central Bulgaria.
The view when we first arrived
Unfortunately when we arrived all we could see was cloud, it was raining and freezing cold outside. So we drove back down the mountain and camped for the night. We returned in the morning for mind-blowing views of this incredible UFO-like structure.
We weren't game enough to shimmy down the dark hole and crawl through to the inside but the photos we saw from more intrepid travellers look pretty amazing.
