Out And About In Acapulco Mexico, Land of Anarcapulco

in travel •  7 years ago  (edited)

We left our apartment yesterday to do more than a shopping trip for groceries. We decided to take a bit of a leisure stroll through the city and remind ourselves of why Acapulco is such a unique and fun town.

Our apartment is up in the hills, twenty minutes walk away from the main drag. The Costera is the main road that runs by the Bay and the beaches. It is really nice to have the peace and simplicity of the hills but it is wonderful to be able to switch it up in a short stroll. Not so short walking uphill.

Marc is automatically spotted as a foreigner but myself, well they think I'm Mexican if they don't know otherwise.

Our neighbors are very familiar to us because of the road being so short. It's nice to know all the faces and say hello. I didn't really have that in Canada. It's funny though, I didn't really want it, when I was there.

Even some of the dogs along the way know us and greet us as we walk by.

I can never get tired of tropical colors. They are so varied and catch my eyes every time. I just love the flora here

When we get to the bottom of the hill, I can't help but marvel at the size of some of the trees. I just can't believe how huge they are. I didn't see trees quite this big in Canada. I'm sure these are nothing compared to the California redwoods that I have heard about. It must be fascinating to see.

The cab stands are busy all throughout the day especially the shared cabs. We never have to wait to go up or down the hill if we choose not to walk. It costs less than a dollar per person.

The street dogs in this part of town are super friendly and they seem to be very close to their own dog friends.

There is never a dull moment at this part of town. The buses, cars and people don't seem to rest. It's slow season now but the warm air keeps people out and about.

The city is heavily guarded with military and police. They all seem quite bored so they spend time on their cell phones.

We are feeling a little anxiety and sadness that we may have to leave and not return for awhile. We have to renew our visas so we are quite confused about what the solution will be. We have three weeks to figure it out.

Meanwhile we are trying to appreciate every drop of it until we know, if we can continue on here in paradise on the Acapulco Bay.

When you mention the anxiety and sadness about leaving, do you wish to STAY in Acapulco? Maybe get a job if your money is running low, and keep the dream alive a bit longer? Or do you wish to see another part of Mexico?

I really applaud you and Marc for what you are doing! I imagine it takes a lot of courage to leave the familiarity of one's homeland for such a long time period, but your adventures seem so exciting! 😊

Hello @thekittygirl. We do wish to stay. We love our place but getting a job here is not an option. There is nothing for us foreigners. Besides it's what we want to get away from not through laziness but to have a life of freedom where we can do something creative. We are procrastinators. We are running out of money, which is only steem dollars but hoping for a spike in bitcoin by the time we need to leave. Living on the edge is natural for us. I guess somehow things have always worked out. It's just that we don't have the certainty right now.

Thank you for everything!

I just had an image flash into my head of you & Marc operating a little food cart near the beach, offering people some of your yummy-looking vegan options! Dunno why that came to me just now... LOL

That is crazy because that is exactly what we talked about before we got to Mexico. The vegan food cart near the beach! You are amazing.

We have found out since then that there is no market for vegan food on the beach right now. There is hope though.
