A trip to the Botanic Garden of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow

Yesterday I posted an Introducemyself post and I decided that I have to share something with you again.

Inspired by different posts around the Steemit platform, with wonderful places around the world, I thought that I could also share pictures from one of the places I visited this summer. Even though Krakow is a city full of nice places to visit, one of my favorites was the Botanic Garden. Situated near the center of the city, the Botanic Garden of the Jagiellonian University was founded in 1783 and occupies 9.6 hectares. It belongs to the Jagiellonian University and is classified as a historical location.

Currently, the collection contains approximately 5000 species and varieties from around the world. This total includes nearly 1,000 species of trees and shrubs, and more than 2,000 species and varieties of plants in greenhouses.

The area of the Botanical Garden is divided into several sections:

-Collections of tropical plants - Greenhouses:
Victoria - the name comes from the Royal Victoria Lily Victoria amazonica growing in the pool
Jubilee - built to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Jagiellonian University in 1964
Dutch - the name is the type of greenhouse

-Plants Ground:
Plants of the Bible
Arboretum
The systematics of plants
Plant Biology
Plants protected
Rock Garden
Medicinal plants and other utility
Ornamentals
Aquatic plants

Because of the fact that I visited the Gardens during the weekend, the Greenhouses were closed and we could just observe them from the outside but it was worth it.

Even if you are a plants expert or just a group of friends/ family looking for a walk this place is suitable for both type of visitors!
Away from the busy center and form big groups of tourists this attraction is hard to find in guides or on the internet due to the several other attractions in the city center that are rated better than this one. Because I enjoy nature and the beauty of it I searched during our stay a place like this to visit and to escape the busy streets in the center.

We were surprised to find out that the Gardens are planned like a park and that you can walk through it about 2 hours depending on your mood and interest.

There are several alleys and rock stone pathways along the Gardens and you can choose whatever road you like!

While walking through the Gardens you can smell a wide variety of flowers and admire their strong colors:

In addition to the flowers, there are also many species of trees that are old and beautiful, mushrooms and even ducks:

What really impressed me is the amount of work these people are doing to sustain this place even if tourists aren't visiting the Gardens so much. This place has less visibility in a tourists eye because of the massive tourist hot spots in the center and that's why the Gardens are receiving fewer funds. Sustaining this variety of plants and showing the name and the family of each plant shows a lot of dedication and for me is really inspiring.

I really enjoyed my stay in Krakow and I strongly recommend to visit the city if you are able to. It is a shame that I wasn't able to visit the Greenhouses too because inside them there are even more beautiful plants from different parts of the world!
