An Iceland Road Trip in the Dead of Winter

in travel •  7 years ago

Hey @bethwheatcraft! This is for you mama - an Iceland road trip!

Video doesn't do it justice but it's almost like a winter wasteland. Driving from the capital along the south coast to Vik is almost deserted - about 6 hours of desolate snow driving. The highlight was pulling over to pet Icelandic ponies - they are one of the friendliest breeds in the world. In the town of Vik are black sand beaches and crazy geometric (hexagon i think?) rock formations called basalts.

Enjoy!

& a couple photos for you too:

Thanks crooke, did you like my last art post? what you think ?

When you say Vik, does that mean the Vikings? I'm from Oregon, USA. Our high school mascot is a Viking. Iceland seems mysterious and cool.

Not sure to be honest - the town's full name is Vík í Mýrdal. I tried looking it up but couldn't find the meaning!
