πAppenzell is a small town in northeastern Switzerland, near the border with Austria, and the capital of the canton Appenzell Ineroden. From the nearest major city, Zurich, it is 100 km east and from St. Gallen 20 km south. The town is located in a small valley, at an altitude of 750-800 meters, surrounded by the Alps, but the area is more tall, but rather mountainous. Climate in Appenzell is a sharper variant of moderate continental. The crescent town runs through the Appenzell. According to data from 2008, Appenzell had about 5700 inhabitants. Swiss Germans constitute the traditional population of the city and the German language is official in the city and the canton. However, during the past few decades, the urban population has become colorful, and many other languages are heard on the streets of Appenzell.
