Iceland adventure: waterfalls and elves...

in travel •  7 years ago

The country is called Iceland but this is about ice in its liquid state: Water

The winter was slowly coming to an end when we were there. There was still some frost during the night but during the days the temperatures went positive and this resulted in a lot of ice melting and getting the waterfalls all over the south of the island kicking off...

We drove all over the south on the ring road with our cool jeep and visited the 3 big falls

  • Gulfos
  • Skogafoss
  • Seljalandsfoss

Gulfos is part of the Golden circle:

Skogafoss is the one you can walk behind

Seljalandsfoss is the one that is really wide and has a nice walk above it

looking at all this amazing nature it is not hard to understand that a lot of the Icelandic people still believe in elves, fairies and trolls...

How could you not with this around you

Deep down I have always believed in elves...

you nailed it... and I hope that I can read a lot more pages from that majestic book

looks epic.

yea, it was

These photos are incredible! I recently spent 6 weeks in Iceland and I wish I had even longer. There are so many otherworldly sights to see there. Thank you so much for sharing!

We sadly only had one week and so did our wallet...
But the country was out of a fairy tale

I loved Iceland when I visited 18 years ago! Gulfoss was one of our stops - except we went in February when there was a lot of ice on the ground - still beautiful though!

yea, my parents went a month earlier and they really had storms and snow and ice, was not so nice for them

we got lucky with the weather

and your name reminds me of a little saying i saw there a lot in tourist shops

always be yourself
unless you can be a viking
then always be a viking...

very true

Yes, indeed! I'm half-viking myself with a strong Scandinavian background - just not Icelandic. ;-)
Still, it was Iceland I was privileged to see some of and it gained a permanent place in my heart.

The nature truly is fantastic. These images capture a lot of it's beauty and I can only imagine the real experience of being there.
Perhaps elves and fairies do exist, if not in other places then definitely in Iceland :-)

thats it right, you got it, if they exist then there

Absolutely beautiful shots! Iceland has always been one of the places I've really wanted to visit. This deserves more upvotes ❤️

thanks for the comment and the compliment

Those are some truly spectacular places that you've visited! It's great how you could experience them from different sides.

Have you had a chance to visit Niagara Falls?

no Niagara falls yet but I imagine I will get there at one point
I personally am avoiding america right now but I might visit from the canadian side, lol

The Canadian side is the best way to visit it, you get the better views. Why are you avoiding America?

When winter comes the water does not flow silent and freezes and when spring comes the water begins to flow from the plateau to the lowlands

yes and its really magnificent to experience

Such a bucketlist place to go visit! Can't wait to go!

yea, this was definitely a tick on the list
