Alcoholiday in Slovenia: Visiting Squats of Ljubljana and Maribor.

in travel •  6 years ago

Almost traditionally, I am dedicating my free days in Autumn to Travel and Alcohol. This time I was visiting a good friend in Slovenia.
When practicing Alcoholiday, bare in mind your drinking skills and health condition, as this kind of vacation can get bit tough on you. So according to my skills I was starting on Thursday with an open return ticket.
Tired from my bus journey I am arriving to Ljubljana waiting with a caffe for my friend on the main station. He appears a little late due to morning traffic of this capital city. First stop anarchist commune called Metelkovo mesto, we've rolled a joint. At the morning hour this place seems quiet and so we wander our way out into the city streets.

Lonely dog begging for breakfast on our first beer stop.

River channels will lead you to the city center.

In Ljubljana they have the smallest city square ever.

You can also hike up the hill to the local castle, for outstanding city views.

That is where we have cracked bottle of rum, poured over ice in caffe cup and from there I divide my trip to part before and after rum. Having slept very little on my bus journey around 8 p.m. I am quite drunk and have a feeling of experiencing two days in one when visiting those anarchist places again at dark. Mellow, almost Amsterdam like atmosphere is upon whole town as some enclosed dome.
After midnight my memories are quite blurred and can not give accurate report, but we are waking up still somewhat fresh and continuing our journey eastwards to Maribor, a hometown of my friend.
From there my whole trip fits to one pocket of memory and that are the mountains around Maribor and bits and pieces from another heavy drinking night cruising around ever-presents squats of this lovely small city.

Gondola takes you without any effort up to the mountain range on one side of the river splitting the valley.

Another side of the valley leads to the Austrian border and contains pure wilderness.

Sunday morning, I am waking up with some hangover already and it's time to head back to reality.
Jumping on bus awaiting my day-long trip back home, leaving me with enough time to process and examine my trip and thinking of where will be my next so called Alcoholiday.
