You can use heat to your advantage in the battle against bed bugs. Just get a clothes steamer and steam any area where the bugs or their eggs may be. The edges of your mattress, the edges of the carpet, curtains, and head boards are good areas to treat locally with steam. You will need to be patient with this as sustained temperatures over 120 degrees Fahrenheit are needed to kill the bugs and their eggs. This kind of use of heat in a small area at a time is much cheaper than a total house heat treatment but the disadvantage is that the live bugs can retreat behind baseboards and deeper into the carpet to escape the heat. However, treating with steam can kill the eggs and give you another advantage in this battle.
