Lourdes: a gentle walk at the foot of the Pyrenees Dec. 7, 2016steemCreated with Sketch.

At the foot of the Pyrenees is Lourdes, where low-lying mountains can be found. Usually a place for Catholic pilgrims, walking and hiking are also possible.

Along Le Gave This river crosses the city of Lourdes. Accessing the trails can be done following the stream upward, keeping it to your right till you reach the bridge as a starting point.

From this bridge, follow the road for a few meters. This road will take u up and around straight to the basilica, it is not safe to follow this as there are bends where incoming cars can't be seen and vice versa.

Follow this trail, making out the stream on your left side. A bit further and you can only hear it. It's a straight trail till you see some steps to the side on your right.

If walking is your only option, this is the only climb you'll going to have as once you reach the top of these steps, a straight trail will give you just that. An almost an hour walk leads to Aspin-en-Lavedan. It's the nearest village to Lourdes where there's only residentials, gites and B and B's.

I have never been here as before, I always go on hikes in this mountain. There are steep parts where it warrants functioning arms, which my left shoulder problem is not letting my arm cooperate. Well, not this time only.

Snow-capped mountain tops can be seen in the distance. I was hoping that i'll get a much better view from Aspin. It's elevated, so there must be an unobstructed view from there and I wasn't disappointed.

It took more or less 40 minutes walking back to Lourdes.

Attention: ne pas toilette publique en Aspin-en-Lavedan
