When the doctors reached into the womb and pulled out little Jeffrey Tillitt, they probably envisioned a southern Californian kid that would one day surf the sandy beaches and ride the concrete waves of the city one day. Little did they know this west coast kid would be relocated to a small country town in eastern NC and develop a love for the outdoors and the sport of hunting big game.
Fast forward to college years. After starting a media production business and working my way up through local music video production, I decided that I wanted to shift my passion for video to a more natural setting and started producing hunting shows. I started to hunt with like-minded buddies and we came up with the idea of starting our own hunting show and apparel line that we called Rut Life. We had a lot of fun and one of the best things to come out of that chapter in my life was meeting one of my best friends and hunting professional, Bubba Addison. Bubba's family owns a large popular wild boar hunting outfitter in Abbeville Georgia. We took a trip down from North Carolina and I was immediately in love with the place. The ancient monstrous cypress trees lined the road in with swaying moss appearing in the shadows like ghosts at sea.
I was so excited on the first night of our adventure that I didn't sleep. I was ready to hunt the ferocious beasts that I had heard so much about. I was fortunate enough to harvest my first wild hog that weekend and since then I have been going back to my new friends camp at least twice a year.
On our last day we went out for some hunting with dogs. They use a special breed that bays the hogs and then when the time is right and we have gotten close enough to the bayed hog, the guide will release the catch dog and it keeps the wild hog held in one place while the guide grabs the back legs and stretches the animal. We then had to take quick action and grab the knife! At that point the hunter takes the knife and stabs under the front armpit of the boar and pierces the heart. There is a short dying period and the hunt is accomplished. Don't get too comfortable though because that's when the real work starts. After harvesting our hogs we then took them into camp for the cleaning and processing stage of the hunt. We make sure all the meat is stored cold on ice in our coolers and hit the road home to spread the news of our recent adventures.
We were able to create a complete DVD from the first two trips to Bubba's hog outfitter and the best part of all, I built a great relationship with my new best friend. I look forward to many more trips to Wildhog.com and cherish all the memories. The meat is always great too!!
