St Andrews
St Andrews, of course is famous around the world for its golf courses and university where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Prince William and Kate). But St Andrews has much more to offer.
Cracking Coast Lines
If the coast lines aren't interrupted by ancient historical ruins then they are interrupted by rolling hills, sharp cliffs and rocky outcrops. Waves can be seen and heard crashing against the rocks.
Incidentally, the best time of year to travel is winter. The wind is bitter. The air is exceptionally fresh. The atmosphere is frosty. But the beauty that winter holds in Scotland is unseen anywhere else in the world.
The height of the sun also creates a great opportunity for very interesting shadows and lighting in photographs.
Unique University
St Andrews really is a true university town. The university buildings are everywhere. The atmosphere this creates is youthful, dynamic and fun. Set against the ancient architecture of the city the feeling bubbles up. I'd really recommend stopping in any bar for a pint of Scottish beer or a wee dram of whiskey. Did you know the population almost doubles when students are in session!
Alleyways for exploring
My favourite thing in any city is to try and walk the lesser walked routes. In St Andrews this means walking along the small closes (Scottish word for alley). They often provide great photo opportunities. If you look closely you will find history left right and centre in these alleys.
Or just have fun playing with shadows.
Golf
Well we do know St Andrews for its golf. Sadly, when I was there last time I didn't have time to walk around the golf course. We opted for a warming dram of whiskey and by the time we left the bar it was pitch black.
Maybe next time.
Loving these shots! Check your wallet, I sent a tip. All the best - GK

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the photos. There are plenty more to follow. I'm really enjoying going through my photos to share them. For years they have been shoved in a dark recess of my hard drive.
