The adventure continues in Vietnam. First it is important for Travelling Teddy to remind everyone how good cake is! In fact all baked good in Vietnam are fantastic. It probably dates back to the French influence. Make sure you stop by a coffeeshop to get a sweet delicious Vietnamese Coffee and some pastries.
The Coffee
Coffee was introduced to Vietnam by French Colonists in the 19th Century. The coffee has a serious kick to it, this comes from the robusta bean which packs some punch.
Same Same but Very Different
'Ca phe soon' (Coffee) is prepared with sweet condensed milk on the bottom and then a drip filter on top. It will normally come like this. So you can sit back, relax and enjoy waiting for your coffee.
If you are adventurous you can order egg coffee or even yoghurt coffee. Egg coffee (ca phe trung) has egg yolk whipped with condensed milk into an airy froth. Think of it as a Vietnamese version of tiramisu. Egg coffee first came about in the 1940s, when milk was rare and egg yolks provided a suitable replacement. Egg coffee is worth a try for the adventure. But travelling teddy thought it tasted liked he'd spilled coffee onto his scrambled eggs in a hungover haze.
