We just returned to Austin after a wonderful, long weekend spent in the art colony of Marfa, Texas. On the way home, we stayed at the Gage Hotel in Marathon, Texas. It's really cool how art has flourished in what is seemingly a very desolate landscape.
Portions of the drive are utterly stunning, visually.
Marfa is both a small town and an international presence in the art world.
We ate family style at a great farm-to-table restaurant called "Capri." The steak was out of this world.
Our favorite dish was the Mexican corn.
We stopped at the famous Prada Marfa store.
One of our friends snapped this really cool shot of my husband in silhouette on the fence behind Marfa Prada.
My husband and his friend are not Bad Hombres.
We visited several galleries. Out of respect for the artists, we did not snap photos in the galleries. But we did snap some of the furnishings in the Hotel Paisano.
This is how Texans chandelier.
This old Bison gave the chandelier some company.
On the way out of Marfa, we made a couple of stops. First stop, Target.
Next stop: Big Bend Brewing Company. Well worth a stop. It was a Sunday afternoon. A local brought in BBQ, that he generously shared with us strangers. The different beers was the highlight though.
Last Stop: The famous Gage Hotel in Marathon, Texas.
This is yours truly, near the entrance of the hotel. Texas is a vast expanse.
The furnishings both inside and outside of the hotel were amazing.
A hand-carved angel:
Glad we didn't run into this guy on a morning hike. This mountain lion looks fierce.

And of course, longhorns!

And of course bucks:
There are also many impressive paintings at the hotel.
Look at this lobby!
We also ran into one famous person at the hotel. Can anybody guess who this is?
I really enjoyed the rocking chairs out front!
All in all, I highly recommend West Texas as a place to rest and relax.
