How I visited Italian fresh made gelato shop in Milan

in travel •  7 years ago

Today I went to eat italian ice cream in one of the most famous gelateria in Milan. You can eat just fresh made gelato there. I chose two flavours mango and yogurt . The mango flavour was really strong and it was uncomfortably delicious. The yogurt flavour balanced the sweetness of mango. I think some of you heard that italian ice cream is the best in the world or at least is one of the best.

The history of gelato is so old that it is practically impossible to understand the exact time it was created. We can say one thing for sure it was much different from the one today. One of the first lovers of ice cream were Neanderthals who put the berries and fruit in snow. Then they ate them frozen. Later people learned to freeze the milk. In Ancient Rome existed shops specialized in selling crushed ice (from Vesuvius) sweetened with honey.

In 9th century Arab people who lived in Sicilia made a sorbet from herbs and spicies with cane sugar. Such mixture they put in a container surrounded by ice and salt .

The great traditions of gelato were developed during the Renaissance period in Italy (XIV-XVI века).
In 1565, Bernardo Buontalenti, on the occasion of the visit of the Spanish ambassador to the court of the Medici Family in Florence, prepared an innovative frozen dessert: the custard Gelato. He is considered to be the creator of italian gelato as we know it.

Here is a picture collage of the history of this gelateria. It was so lovely to see how this shop looked at the beginning. As you can see there was always a long line in front of the shop.

I liked the owners outfit and his personality. He was really friendly and tried to serve ice cream in a best way possible. The family business is very common in Italy. It is very nice when traditions of ice cream making are passed from generation to generation.

They had so many flavours but I could not try all of them. You can eat

My favourite flavour is chocolate and in italian is called cioccolato. But there are many options of different cioccolato types:
cioccolato fondente - dark chocolate
cioccolato fondente extra - extra dark chocolate
gianduja or gianduia - milk chocolate with hazelnut
Bacio - is a mix of chocolate and chopped hazelnuts, and the bacio gelato flavor is a chocolate-hazelnut combination.

The specialist of italian gelato say that it is important to try fior di latte ( flower of milk) is a base for all other ice cream flavours

The fruit flavours are really great because they use real fresh italians fruit. The nut flavours are also one of the best choice because you can taste the nuts so distinctly.
There are different types of cones and you can see on the picture that you can buy even in a bigger container.

You can ask for a cookie waffle as a decoration and a tool to eat gelato.

If you don't like waffle cones, you can buy in a paper container.

The ice cream cake is a good choice when someone invited you to visit them.

Another popular dessert for summer that you can buy in gelateria is semifreddo. It means semi-frozen which is usually eggs, sugar and cream, or a combination of condensed milk and cream. It has the texture of frozen mousse.
