Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque, Iran

It is an exceptional monument of the Persian architecture of the Safavid period. The mosque was built during 17 years (1602-1619). It is unusual for several reasons. In particular, it does not have a single minaret. There is also no internal courtyard, while the entrance has stairs. Perhaps the reason for this negligence with the strict rules of Muslim architecture was that the mosque was never mentioned to be of public use, as it served as a place of worship for the sheikh harem women.
