City Museum

The most fun and thrilling place for kids to go to in St Louis has to be the City Museum.

It's totally unlike the usual museum setup where visitors walk around quietly admiring exhibits or artefacts on display in glass cabinets. Instead, the City Museum is one huge monstrosity using old industrial and architectural objects repurposed and welded on the inside and outside of an old multi level building.

According museum's website, the museum is made up of "old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, miles of tiles and 2 abandoned planes". Spectacular reengineering and sculpturing!

There are chutes, railings, slides and ladders; just amazing and exciting to whet a kid's sense of adventure. Truly like a life size game of snakes and ladders.

Although, we were so closely monitoring my grandson, we 'lost' him at one stage when he ran off climbing up and sliding down chutes. We were frantic and dashed up and down the stairways looking for him. Fortunately, when he realised that we were not with him, he stopped and told an older girl that he has lost his mummy! He was only 3 years old then.

My grandson loved the museum so much he asked his parents to visit again. They did a few months later and he spent a fabulous day and this time without mishap.
