             it is the most popular and ancient monastery in Bulgaria. Also, it is considered as one of the most important landmarks of the country. It is an architectural marvel. It is located in southwestern Rila Mountains.

It is located at a distance of 117 km from the capital of the country, Sofia. It derives its name from the founder of the monastery, Saint Ivan Rilski (Рилски). The construction of the monastery began in 1335. During his lifetime, the popularity of Ivan spread far and wide. As a result, his disciples started living with him and eventually created a community.  


Pilgrimage destination: 

    

            From 1469, the relics of St Ivan were placed in the monastery. Ever since then, the monastery actually became a pilgrimage for people all over the Balkan region. Also, 1st of July is celebrated as the day when the relics of Saint Ivan where 1st brought to the monastery.

Getting there:   


You can easily head over to the monastery by bus from the capital. The bus leaves at 10:20 in the morning from the west bus station. The bus reaches around 13:00. If you take the tram, it will just take you 25 minutes. The cost of the return ticket with the help of the bus is around € 11.  


Guided tour:  


Even though a guided tour is an expensive option but you should definitely opt for it. With the help of the guided tour, you will be able to understand the intricacies of the construction. As a result, you will be able to explore the place in a much better way.  


  Museum inside the monastery:

             There is a museum within the premises of the monastery. It exhibits the art dated between the 14th century as well as the 19th century. As a result, you will be able to easily get a glimpse of the art and culture of Bulgaria during that period of time. 


It also consists of 600 miniature figures which are worth witnessing at least once. They are a testament to the fine artistic skills of the workers of the time.

Nearby attractions: 


Stob pyramids are nearby as well. They are in the same valley as the monastery. Thus, when you’re going to explore the monastery, it will be a good idea to explore these pyramids as well. 


Thus, when you in Sofia, Rila monastery, is one of the best options to visit in the region. You will be able to catch a glimpse of the pyramids nearby as well. It is definitely worth a visit.

I just want to say as amazing and so breathtaking, just see those ancient architectures and the design of these architectures are telling that these are really old and these amazing artistic architectural pieces are really good to see. And i really liked the museum which is so beautiful and these are reflecting as real small village stuff and in my opinion it's really great to explore this museum. And also it's really breathtaking to watch the interior of this architecture and every stuff is amazing to watch.
