Rajamahendravaram City is one of the old cities of Andhara Pradesh state, South India in India. Rajamahendravaram is a historical, traditional and cultural city surrounded by nature and located on bank of the river Godavari.
The Godavari Pushkaram, a festival celebrated once in twelve years, attracts a large number of pilgrims from all over the country who come here to take a holy dip in the Godavari river, which is believed to wash away their sins. Asia's largest rail-cum-road bridge on the river Godavari linking Kovvur and Rajamahendravaram is considered to be an engineering feat. The massive rail-road bridge across the Godavari at the historic town of Rajamahendravaram linking the East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh is an impressive sight and a symbol of the progress and prosperity of the region. As as a train passes over the bridge, a passenger can see the dilapidated hundred-year-old rail bridge built by Sir Arthur Cotton and a bow-shaped rail bridge built in the 1990’s.
Dhawaleswaram is about 4 kilometres from Rajamahendravaram and is also located close to the National Highway 5. This place is where Sir Arthur Cotton built the first barrage over the mighty Godavari River. It also is home to the Sir Arthur Cotton Museum, which has pictorial depictions of how the barrage was built. The museum displays many tools that were used during the construction of the barrage
Feel the beauty of Rajamahendravaram. Let's get lost in this wonderful sojourn at Rajamahendravaram.
