Travel Diaries #9 Explore Greece

Greece also known as the Cradle of Western Civilization and the origin of Olympic Games is one of the most beautiful countries that I got an opportunity to travel around a year back.

Greece has one of the best world heritage sites which depicts important stages in human history.
That’s not all Greece is famous for its beautiful beaches and mountains.

We planned our trip trying to get some bit of everything, so we included Athens, Mykonos and Santorini in our itinerary.
While Athens is all historical, Mykonos and Santorini was total fun. The best part was I travelled with my sister so we had loads of fun going crazy in the place.

From all of these places Mykonos was one place from where I did not feel like leaving, the perfect party hub and the way the whole city is made its uniqueness gets you glued to it. Everything is white and blue, I felt like I was in a fairyland 😊

In Athens
The Famous Monastiraki Square, the whole place is filled with eatery joints and souviner shops.

Acropolis Heritage Site. It's a lot of walk here, you need to be full of energy and preferably visit the site in morning.
Acropolis was created when democracy and art prospered in Greece. Acropolis signifies the beginning of the Western civilization. Acropolis also means upper city, but its no more considered a city, its just a heritage site within Athens to visit.

The site of Parthenon. It was dedicated to the Goddess of wisdom Athena Parthenons was the Goddess of the city in the 5th century.

Temple of Olympian Zeus, It is dedicated to Zeus, the chief of the Olympian Gods

After you finish visiting the Acropolis site, you should not miss out the pathway Local food Restaurants. You will be tempted there by lot of freebees by each one of them, the best part is the experience of being with the localities.
The Greeks are very warm and friendly people. All through out we had very pleasant experiences and yes we did try some Ouza also their famous drink. It is a very strong one hitting you right in the head. We were not aware though the bar tender did warn us, but we did not listen to him and gulped it down and that was it :-)

After a 3 day stay in Athens, we proceeded to Mykonos, the white Island. Also known as the whitewashed paradise.
It's a perfect party hub, there are some archaeological sites and museums here too, but they mostly go unnoticed. Honestly even we did not have interest.

The Restaurants and Pubs here are right by the sea, It is a perfect way to spend your evening and wind up your day.
The sunset here is supposed to be one of the best and thousands of people gather here to watch the sunset.

The narrow streets have its own uniqeness. I love the way this whole place is made up, so lively fresh and cheerful, I have never seen a place like this before.

After 2 days of complete craziness, we then proceeded to Santorini.
Santorini was formed as a result of intensive volcanic activity. Santorini is also known as the Romantic Getaway. There are many beaches here with crystal clear waters. Santorini is a famous wedding destination and you would get to see at least one just married couple in a day here or may be more also. Fira is one of the most sought after place to visit and the major attraction. There are many Cathedrals here and all the Cathedrals have a blue dome, highlighting and making them stand out. You get a very serene and peaceful feeling being in this place. Santorini also has vast vineyards.

There are 3 famous beaches here, The White, Red & Black Sand Beach. The White one is the smallest, then the Red and the Black.

The Red Sand Beach, this was one of the best I liked.

The White Sand Beach

The Open Air Cinema is one more experience here, the place was full, weather was just perfect to be out in the open under the sky watching the movie. I loved the place and the whole experience.
