HOTEL ROOM = REGULAR PRICE.... SLEEP = $2.99 EXTRA

in travel •  7 years ago

I'm not sure if you've seen this yet, but it may be getting more popular.

A little while back, I saw something new when I passed through a hotel. Since we travel a bit and are often on the road, hotels and motels certainly come in handy. In general, there are a lot of similarities and a lot of common things that you will basically find and any and/or all of them. The last two times, something new caught my eye.

SLEEP SANA

Until recently, I had never noticed these small bottles at any hotel before. The bottles are of "SleepSana: All Natural Sleep Supplement." For just $2.99 (which will be added to your room bill) you can try a bottle to help you sleep. Many people around the world do have trouble getting to sleep and sleep is an important part of our daily lives. I can't imagine being on a long trip where you need to be awake and aware to drive, pulling into an expensive hotel for a room, and then not being able to get any rest. That would be terrible.

While I haven't tried it yet and do not have any intention to, it still caught my eye and got my attention. The active ingredients include things like Valerian Root, Melatonin, Tryptophan, Fluvic and GABA, along with others. THe purpose of these specific ingredients is to have effects like making you fall asleep sooner and making sure that you remain relaxed and calm. One review even pointed out that "even if you awake, you immediately go back to sleep."

While the main side effect is that it could become habit forming, I had another concern. While getting to sleep quickly and being able to stay sleeping, even immediately falling back to sleep if you awake" can have its benefits, hotel rooms aren't always used as they should be. While I am not trying to put any ideas into people's heads, I wonder if people could possibly use this "sleep aid" as a date-rape drug. Even alcohol is used in this way sometimes, but if just by drinking this bottle someone will fall asleep rapidly, remain calm, and not really be able to wake up, I certainly see a possibility of misuse not only with date-rape, but perhaps also kidnapping.

Have any of you ever seen this product at a hotel? Has anyone used it either at home or while travelling? Do you think that my concern is valid?

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

It is possible they have "over-promised" their sleep claims. The natural supplements are normally more gentle. However, if they included enough of them, and all together, I don't know. I think I might be concerned if it would be dangerous to children. Normally hotel rooms aren't stocked with any kind of medicines, natural or not. Parents might not even be aware it is there to be alert for.

Very good point. I was thinking about that too, perhaps some mighty powerful claims were being made, when the reality was somewhat less powerful. Speaking of children, we had to move the bottle out of reach.

and what about the minibar then? Knowing that 20cl whiskey would do more harm than 3 of them bottles? !

This is true, but most adults know and are aware that the minibar is often available in hotel rooms.

This is a new product for me, I have never seen it in any hotel, so far I have no need to consume one, because when I get to bed I do it so tired that I remember as soon as I touch the bed
thank you very much dear friend @ papa-pepper for sharing this information
I wish you a great day

I also looking for this precious product love it!

Hi dear... Its interesting.. I also never heard before if its natural then it ll be good and its use ll be safe.. Thanx for sharing new thing

Valerian Root, Melatonin, Tryptophan, Fluvic and GABA will certainly help you fall asleep, not to the point where you can't wake up (sorry rapists) but if you do get awoken you may be pretty groggy and/or cracked out feeling.

I never have trouble sleeping but I know the natural stuff is not very potent so I don't think its dangerous. Smart marketing campaign for that product though.

I think so too. A lot of people probably buy it just because it is there. After seeing it, it is at least on their mind, so after laying down for 5 minutes and not falling asleep, they might get right back up and grab a bottle.

The silver delivery is on Dtube. I sent you a link in chat. Thanks again... the gift that keeps on giving!

I’m 100% concerned about anything that has to do with unnatural way. I don’t have any sleep issues and I’m supporter of not taking any pils unles it’s realy necessary, for example fever.
However, when I sleep somewhere other than home, I’m having issues with falling asleep, but still don’t recommend any pills, eventough it says it’s all natural it’s still pill.
Resteemed!

I prefer to avoid everything that I don't have to, so I know your concerns.

The ingredients are nature sleep inducing. It's a natural sleep, date rape , no way.

Okay, good to know, it was just when the claimed effects of all of those ingredients were combined, it looked like a potential recipe for disaster.

sir actually my parents blame me for my over sleeping..i dont know i can sleep for days :) i even consulted a doctor for that..he said that i am normal..nothing to worry..but my parents worry about my sleep addiction :)

This so intriguing
we don't have these kinda of stuff in Romania, but I know Valerian root is good for the sleep, I think it may work
If you eventually will try, let us know the result
cheers @papa-pepper

whether to consume it often will not be harmful to our body

If I was going to take that, I'd rather take the supplements individually. I haven't heard of that company and who knows what they actually put in it. It's just really surprising what people are willing to put into their bodies, often without even questioning what is in it and what the unintended/side effects will be.

Very, very good point!

are that save @papa-pepper? 🙄

The main reason today for this is the stress.Nowadays people are so busy and they are in a big race.So they do not have enough time to relax themselves even. They are very tensed and they do not have a way to release this pressure inside them. And it affects the biological system of them and they find its hard to sleep. So they have to take these pills for that
-cheers-

Hi PP, I appreciate your concern about this natural sleep aid. And I am a major activist in preventing violence against women and children. However, people can often just as easily get knock-out drugs in vending machines and at the convenience store down the road. If people need a sleep aid, I think it's great to have a natural option to drugs like ambien which cause major health problems. That combo in the one you described is actually a great list. Very similar to the one called Knock Out sold by Infowars. I've used it and it works great. Sounds like just a trend with someone probably making commissions for selling it. Higher end hotels have mini-bars with much more potent contents in them!

Yeah, I thought that those were some good ingredients too, and have heard good things about several of them. I prefer natural things over pharmaceuticals, and was just out picking some Rabbit Tobacco with my son yesterday.

“Natural” is used to justify all sorts of things. Cyanide is another "natural" product that can help you get to sleep … permanently! For me, seeing the word "natural" in a product claim is a deterrent.

nice post @papa-pepper! but i have never been in need of any sleeping pill to sleep before lol.

That's good, hopefully you never will.

yeah @ papa-pepper! i have some nice articles on my post that might interest you. i will like you to take a look at them please.

God bless you.

very interesting friend,

I suspect this has more of a placebo effect for those taking it than anything.
I imagine a key ingredient also has to be supplied by the person drinking it.... the DESIRE to fall asleep.
None of those ingredients are guaranteed to make you fall asleep. It might promote relaxation and coax your brain/body towards sleep, but its different than any kind of drug that is actually a sleep aid or muscle relaxant. In OTC doses none of those ingredients are particularly mind altering like Rohypnol (AKA roofies) which is a benzodiazepine or even alcohol.

Probably a good money maker for hotels though!

I imagine a key ingredient also has to be supplied by the person drinking it.... the DESIRE to fall asleep.

Very good point, and you've made another one too!

Probably a good money maker for hotels though!

I've never actually needed an aid to sleep. I sleep at no extra cost :)
I wouldn't mind if I get the one that will even keep me awake

Me too, I sleep at no additional charge!

That makes two of us then :)
Guess we're even buddy

I have never seen this before but it seems like it totally would not work lol or if you gotta get up to drive might be a bit of mess. No issues sleeping here.

Those ingredients are not addictive so it'll be safe to use. Sadly, now a day's everyone is stressed and can't sleep. I've suffered from not being able to sleep due to many symptoms of Lyme Disease. GABA and Valerian Root helped tremendously. Thanks for sharing!

Lyme's Disease is a rough one. Good to know that GABA and Valerian Root have helped you.

Lyme Disease is rough. I was diagnosed Jan of 2017 but have had it for a long time, still not fully recovered. Recovery is slowly coming through. :)

The hotel definitely meant well for their customers but humans can be very devilish. I hope the hotels that have these also have a strong security details in case of rape and kidnap

When is truth that active ingredients like Valerian Root, Melatonin, Tryptophan are in this, there is no question for rape, and being so sleepy that you can not be alert is not possible also!. Valerian will ease your nerves, so the stress of a working day or a long trip will be easy released, melatonin s a body own made hormonelike product when taken too much there is no report of, but it might be considered that you could be lightly dizzy. Tryptophan is also own body made hormone like or enhancer, no idea how to explain it in proper English. Trypthophan is nice when you want to loose weight, it gives a full filling, and in a good mood. So you find the ease to fall a sleep with valerian, you stay a sleep with melatonin, and you keep being alert without direct feeling of hunger. with the tryptophan. Nice service of the hotel I would say... But before i would check the brand all the rest of ingredients and internet !

Cool, thank you for chiming in!

do keep in mind that it all stands by the brand! when they produce good stuff, there is nothing wrong with it, most of the valerian combined products do not deliver over 200mg! Overdosed is from 1000 mg. Overdose is used in the recreational side of life. And most of the times drinks have even less mg in it, because it works quicker. I find it ideal to treat anxiety and sleepless nights in menopause and for scribe valerian root up too 200mg. And with anxiety attack the double dose. Everything is bad when taken to much. Being alert and sharing your knowledge with family and children, makes them understand it. I think of a berry bush and do not get to the name, lovely berrys eye hight, easy to pick but has prickles. When a child picks them and eats more than 150 gram, and that is not too much... they can have immediate horrendous stomach and gut problems. I think here in Belgium all them preparations are having safety lids as well? I think it causes less harm as the minibar, which children always find so intresting, which kid wants to go to sleep?

Valerian Root, Melatonin, Tryptophan, Fluvic and GABA, along with others.
Valerian root by itself would put me off ever taking something like this, to strong a dose can stop the heart if you are not allergic to it.
When taking any herbal you have to understand the bad side to them as well.

Wow! Good to know.

https://www.drugs.com/mtm/valerian-root.html
this is just a random google site on it but it does list some of the issues.

That's like going to the bathroom only to find out it costs $5 to go number 2. What a weird thing.

only when you have to use one of the laxatives for sell to do so. :-)

Wow, its so interesting @papa-pepper

very nice :) thank you :) didnt know it.

This would have come n handy on my holiday over Christmas.

I normally have trouble sleeping, and compound that with hours of driving and a strange bed, I got very little sleep.

I'm only now just starting to catch up on it and I've been home for a week.

We were staying in Air B&B, so possibly a bit safer than a hotel. But I don't think i'd try it out in a hotel first. (or Air B&B).

You'd want to try this at home where you are safe to see what it's like and then make the call whether to use it or not.

I don't think I'd ever use it if I was traveling alone.

I'd rather be accused of being paranoid than be accused of being dead. ;-)

having tried a variety of sleep aids, including mixtures of valerian, melatonin, tryptophan, and others, I can say concerns of using it as a date rape aid are highly improbable. It's nowhere nearly as powerful or effective as pharmaceutical drugs, so it must also be much less than the serious date rape drugs. The effect is completely different.

I see your point on abuse, drink sleep,wake minus a kidney,or ?
Sad that we live in a world were that is a serious concern.
Namaste

Personally, I have not yet seen this. Sounds useful tho. When I cannot fall asleep I usually opt for Melatonin pills.

Didn't really ponder about those consequences at first... unfortunately, everything made for good these days, someone somehow manages to find a creative way to use if for evil.

Words of wisdom from a hardy traveller. I wouldn't be likely to try it, but I don't travel much these days. Useful to get advice, or something that makes you think twice. Thank you.

Well, I think it's a great idea (I wouldn't take it), but I get the concept.

Encourage all the hotel guests to shut up, drink up, and go to bed.

It keeps them quiet if they are sleeping. It lowers the wear and tear of the room if they are laying catatonic in the bed and not touching things. lol

I think you just wrote their new advertising campaign to get a case of those in every hotel room in the world! Might be more cost effect for higher end rooms to just give them out for free ;instead of, a mint on your pillow.

Looks like a pretty basic sleep aid, mostly herbal. The synthetic GABA might be a concern except orally ingested GABA cannot alter human physiology to much of a degree.

I would expect that it will help you ignore background noise, moderately relax tense muscles and aches associated with a less than comfortable bed, and get some sleep if you're already pretty tired.

I don't think it's anywhere near strong enough (even if you drink both) to render you too relaxed to deny consent.

I don't think it's anywhere near strong enough (even if you drink both) to render you too relaxed to deny consent.

That's what I was hoping. I think some of the claims on the review may have been somewhat embellished.

for sure it is! It makes the brand dubious and is not a good adverb at all. something totaly different but I just want to say it, is that children who are having a difficulty sleeping without reason. (not afraid or anxious) can have a great lack of melatonin, and they will feel so much better in the day or act less active! when they drink a melatonin tea.

Never heard of it. I’ve seen quite a few sleep aids over the years they all seem to contain melatonin among other things.

I’ve had sleeping issues for quite a number of years. I’ve been tempted a few times to want to go out and spend whatever it costs just to get a few hours of sleep. I have not yet due to sharing a concern you have with possible of “habit forming.”

My biggest concern is how easily could you wake after taking something like that? If it sent to help you sleep and keep you out would an emergency wake you up? I would hate for there to be a break in or a fire and I was either unable to wake up or too groggy from the effects of a sleep aid to thinking clear enough to do what was necessary.

Our modern society seems to have an answer for just about everything. Expect to let the body do what its suppose to on its own. That kind of looks like a bottle for 5 hour energy expect a different color. Take a bottle to sleep take another one to wake up! Hey take another one to feel numb to life’s pain. I can see the addiction already.

Most nights I just hope for some natural rain outside my window that is the trick for me. Helps me sleep and keeps me asleep.

I never have seen that in a Hotel room, but maybe the effects are overestimated. I have sleep issues, actually when I travel the first night in a hotel is awful, and there are not natural supplements that makes me sleep.

odd that.
when I was truckin I used to see little bottle that resembled those for sale at the fuel desk in truckstops...

The difference was they were intended to keep you AWAKE!
I'd be very careful taking stuff like that.
either kind.

This is something I would natural stay away from for a couple of reasons. These types of products usually don't go through too many quality controls and aren't checked for contents. Who knows for sure what is in that bottle? It may be what they say it is, maybe not. Secondly, what if you have an allergy to one of the ingredients and don't know about it? Anaphylactic shock wouldn't be a restful night.

Never seen that before!

Need something that can keep me awake

Must have effects too Good Nd bad
