Hiking in Switzerland #5: Davos - Flüelapass
New in this series: German translation - FEEDBACK appreciated!
Greetings fellow hiker! Time to go out of the house and ... into the snow? Yes! Today, we will take a wintery hike from the beautiful swiss village of Davos to the Flüelapass. Maybe you have already heard of Davos (more precise: Davos consists of six communities: Davos Dorf, Davos Platz, Davos Frauenkirch, Davos Glaris, Davos Monstein und Davos Wiesen) from the annually held (and well known) World Economic Forum. Country representatives as well as science and economic experts from around the world come together in January to discuss todays' global challenges. If there's no World Economic Forum going on, Davos becomes, as most swiss villages in the mountain, a paradise for winter sport enthusiasts.
Servus Wanderfreunde!
We start at the Davos train station and head east. If possible, try to cross the road at Oberhöfji to get on a small path next to the river. If you miss this one, like we did, just contine to the gondola station Dörfji and cross the small river. This path will lead us all the way up to Flüelapass, sometimes crossing or meeting the road.
As we are doing this hike in mid October (actually, one week before Saentis hike), there is already some snow around and the weather doesn't really want us to enjoy this hike. But true hikers don't give up. Even if your clothes are getting a bit wet!
And at least sometimes, there was a small glimpse of the sun!
The further we went, the more snow covered our path and sooner or later, we were barely able to see it! Fortunately, I had my GPS with me and we were at least somewhat following the trail. At this time, your feet started to get cold and wet. Especially with the snow and this weather, it was quite difficult and one could easily slip. Therefore it was important to be careful with every step you take.
Initially the plan was to go even further than the Flüelapass. There is the Fluela Schwarzhorn (3147m), which was our initial goal. However, due to starting snowfall and bad sight, we had to stop at the top of Flüelapass. Most likely, it would not have been possible to go all the way. Even with good weather, it could have already been to late into the winter to reach Schwarzhorn.
As we were hiking back down I thought that this hike wasn't really satisfying. But reliving these moments now, I think it still was a great experience! Especially since we decided on our way down to finally build a snowman! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!
YUHUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!
One last selfie...
Ein letztes Selfie...

...before returning back to the train station. I know that these pictures did not really satisfy your needs for awesome hiking pictures. I totally understand. Therefore I thought I will add another picture from Davos while skiing with a little better weather. The valley that we were hiking at is two valleys over! On the left side, you can see Davos Dorf.
As this is the first time I added a german translation, please let me know if you liked it! Feedback on how to better display both languages is also welcome! Thanks for your feedback!
Was hälst du davon?

The worst was when our feet were all wet and cold. AND unfortunately, the restaurant at the Flüelapass was closed. So we couldn't even warm up before returning!

Oh no! That's frustrating. Solid waterproof footwear is probably my #1 requirement for hiking trips, especially up here in Norway where it's always wet. But sometimes the water finds its way in anyways. Only so much you can do!
