Adventures in Oz: Aussie English part 1

in travel •  8 years ago  (edited)

When I first came to Australia I thought the accent was different but not too difficult to understand. It was the phrases and slang that stumped me. For example I went to a Pizza Hut with my dad and sister for dinner and the waitress asked, 'do you want the lot?' We looked at each other and didn't have a clue what that meant! She looked at our puzzled faces and said it louder this time: 'DO YOU WANT THE LOT?' Shouting the same sentence won't help us comprehend what you are saying...Finally my dad said, 'we would like to have the all you can eat buffet.' The waitress replied, 'That's the lot!'

Picture is not from pizza hut but a nice winery called Meletos

Bartenders generally don't mind if you get pissed in their pubs.
