If you wait on the conveyor belt for your suitcase and this will never appear... Well, this happens on a daily basis on numerous airports worldwide: more then 10 million suitcases  are getting lost according to a new study.

As soon the airplane doors open after landing, many passengers are rushing to the conveyor belt to pickup their suitcases. Sometimes their plan is not successful. According to a study of the belgian IT company SITA, more then 10 million pieces of luggage are getting globally lost on airports. This means: there will be on a airplane with 200 passengers at least one passenger without getting his luggage. Interesting: the quote of missing luggage is in Europe higher then in Asia or North America.

Transit - Transfer luggage takes time

Approximately 50% of the travellers which are having a transfer are affected by a lost luggage. Especially if the transfer time is very short, the risk of a missed plane is very high. This is the case on big airports where the planes are far away from each other, parked on different terminals. If you travel, you should be careful about the transit time between the flight in order to avoid this kind of surprise.

Mistakes at checkin, on security and on the bag-tag

Following 16% of lost pieces of luggage, the failure of delivering it to the airplane lies at the departure airport. They miss to deliver and load the luggage on time. Almost the same quantity of luggage is not arriving at the arrival airport because of some problems with them at the security check.

Every 10th suitcase is not delivered because of weather conditions or because is was confiscated by customs. Only 4% of the mistakes are done by the arrival airport. Also the chance that a suitcase is loaded on a wrong flight or the bag-tag is printed wrong.

Hello @pocketechange this is the best way to travel. Also avoiding the long queues at the checkin counter. If travelling low cost then you need to check the approved dimensions because some airlines have different dimensions then others :-(
