ISLA DE LA PIEDRA...a SECRET South of Mazatlan, Mexico

in travel •  7 years ago

When choosing where to stay in Mazatlan, we decided on a peninsula just South of the mainland called

Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island).

It was vastly different than Mazatlan, yet just 5-minutes away.

Dirt roads, a small community of people (3,000) and every restaurant/store you need and family operated too.

If people wish to go to the larger shops or need to work, they simply take the ferry across for 10 pesos. These ferries run about every 3-5 minutes at the Embarcadero.

Horses line the dirt paths waiting for tours to come from the cruise ships. Nothing like riding a horse on the beach here!

Many of us drive around "Cuatrimotos" aka Quads.

Many of the locals join us from Mazatlan for the gorgeous beach and relaxing environment!

We LOVE the fresh produce that drives around the island stopping for your needs!

Here is a restaurant that opened when we arrived. A great little cozy place ran by a daughter who loves to cook. $11 to feed a family of four!

Another one of our favorite places next to the island school where our kids would play on the swing set while waiting for our food to come.

We LOVE how they always serve adults first at every meal! It is a standard custom.

Here is a home of an elderly couple who run a small restaurant at night.

Our local Carnerceria. (Meat Store)

The busy fishing boats!

Our cute Catholic Church...smallest church I have ever seen in my life! Not even sure of the name. Only 8 tiny pews.

The baseball stadium on the island...

Basketball or pickle ball court!

Hope you enjoyed this little 'Secret' as much as we did!
