One way ticket to the moon - first moon will be Buenos Aires

in travel •  7 years ago

I am slowly slowly starting to prepare for my journey. Today I had an overview of my wardrobe and tried to come up with a plan regarding the storage of my few things that I own. I went to Wilko and bought compression bags so that I minimize the space required for my stuff. I even had a trial today, with few of them and i am quite happy as half of my wardrobe fitted in one bag and I still have 3 left. As I love minimalism in life, I don't own many things and is helping with moving around quite fast.

This will be more or less the size of the bag that I will have with me, apart from another small backpack with my laptop. I am planning to spend a lot of my time in the warm countries so I my mock-up backpack has only few dresses, 2 skirts, around 7 t-shirts, toiletries, light towels, sandals, flipflops, light sleeping bag (I am fussy about the bed sheets) and the complete mountain gear : hiking boots (not packed), breathable layers, windproof and waterproof jackets, warm polar sheets, sunglasses and warm hat. Also charcoal as I like to draw now and then. All together less than 10kg.

As is not the first time I am embarking in this type of adventure I already know that is more than enough. I like having memories and at the end I will have plenty new t-shirts and hippie pants. For the same reason I never pack any kind of accessories, I like to be drawn to earrings and ancient bracelets and other girlish nonsense and buy them on the spot. Most of the time I also get bored of them and exchange them in hostels with girls that they are willing to play the trading game.

I booked my first day when I land in Buenos Aires in a hostel named Art Factory. The name was so cool, that I just couldn't not do it. It drawn my attention because it has a similar name with a place I love in Lisbon LX Factory. I just felt is the right place for me to sleep, even though I should book something more cheap :D The other funny thing is that this hostel is 15 minutes walk from the contact improvisation jam place that I want to attend on the same night I land. Is the dance I have been doing for the last 6-7 years and as I can see all seems to be in the flow. The only aspect I will struggle is the 2.5 hours from the airport to my art nice place :)

Now everything is unpacked again and I am thinking what to do with the rest of the small things: books, meditation bells, Tibetan bowl, jumping rope :D I guess they will end up in a box and I will settle for the unsubtle meditation bells on my phone. I shall see, maybe I can squeeze them in and take care of my soul. I wanted to announce my project with the beer but somehow I guess it will need to wait.

Stay tuned for the next posts and hugs,

Wow! That girl knows how to pack!
Are you planning on doing hostels the whole way? Will you be going around the world or just South America?
For us so far, the only serious problem we find is bad internet connections... Can be a very frustrating situation when your only source of income requires a good connection.

Well experience is the key I guess. I am a professional traveler for more than 20 years :)) So I have no idea where I go, starting with South America and if steem is back around the world :) I am planning hostels and camping in some remote places. Up to know I always managed to find WiFi. I will see if there I will have the same luck. Maybe we will see by accident somewhere on the street. That will be so fun. Anyway I will go for sure to steemfest3 :p

Haha yes! Being positive, open to challenges and whatever the journey brings you will provide you with tons of amazing experiences. No expectations, just living the adventure to the fullest :) Love this.

Steemfest3 it is! @osm0sis @meanmommy33

She does, doesn't she.Where is ur next stop after Mauritius?

We're thinking Madagascar. May require some small adjustments though. Switching from moving mode to travel mode is not so easy when already on the road.

Instant adjustment so there's no other option. all will end well ul see.😙😙😙
Hugs!

Exciting!! Art Factory is totally a cool name, and I'd be the same and pick a place because of its name, especially if it has meaning :D

Yes I am always ready to do silly things in the name of meaning. But that makes life more fun :)

@edb pointed me to your post because of the one I just wrote (fitting my entire wardrobe into one suitcase...MUCH larger than your backpack here.) I am thoroughly impressed with your minimalism. Truth be told, I have a long way to go before being at backpack status. But after cleansing myself of 60-75% of my clothes/shoes/accessories, at least this is a fantastic start. :)

Love hearing your story about buying accessories and trading them with people. It reminds me of my years in Girl Scouts where we would make "swaps" (beaded trinkets, shrinky dinks, pins, buttons, etc.) and trade them with our favorite friends at camp or events. I'm not sure when along the way I got so attached to my stuff (my guess: broke college student years), but hopefully I can adopt this sharing/trading mentality again.

In my case I remember since I moved in UK, I could not fit an entire home in one room in a shared apartment. It was so strange at the beginning, but after few months I realized how much I like it. I remembered to de-clutter often and used most of your article tips. Is part of my lifestyle that every 6 months to see every little thing that I own and ask myself if is to be kept or it is looking for a new home. Before I even open my laptop, or read your post I get rid of 2 small backpacks and 3 bags, all of them are in great shape and they will travel in my flatmate country :) So there is a connection some how and I will see you around more often for sure :)

When are you leaving? Have a safe trip! I'm leaving on Wednesday for Thailand... ;)

I will leave on 26 on a very early morning with a 13 hours direct flight. Hope they have great movies :D I love Thailand and I even have a friend that she is doing some women retreats if sounds interesting for you :)

Oh and you already start packing now?? I have only put my flip flops on top of my backpack so far... ;)

Yes - let me know about the retreats! I'm planning to be in Chiang Mai and Koh Phangan, but who knows... If the SBD goes up again while I'm there, I might be able to do more :)

It was a mockup, so I have an ideea how many I have left to be stored. Is already empty with just my sunglasses on. I also hope that SBD is back on so I can do this endlessly at a point :))

YESSS! :)

Safe travels ✈️

thanks :D

How many L is that backpack again?

Only 60L. You can buy 70-80 L if you plan to take all house with you :))

With my height..50L will do🤣🤣

That's so exciting! You can tell you're an experienced traveler by the lightness of your pack. When I did my big trip I found I shed more and more as I went on, buying anything extra I needed in charity shops and markets.

Your first night sounds like it's going to be a blast. Looking forward to following you in all your adventures! 💙

It is exciting indeed :) No matter how many countries I've seen, how many cultures, how many beings and way of being, I can still feel the thrill. Thank you for your support and see you around this world again :)

How cool, I wish you a happy travelling!

Thanks hope you feel inspired to start if you have the wish :)

So exciting to be off on an adventure with a backpack and a ton of freedom! I got a hit of that excitement reading this post. :) Look forward to reading about your adventures!

The freedom is an inner freedom not something you can find on the road. But I am looking forward, so keep an eye on.

Ok, I got it, I'll help :P ahahahaha !!!! [even though....honestly, organized much??? I don't think you need my help anymore...but you should know, I am a bit like Monica from Friends ;))) ] How long will you be gone? I'm the other kind...you'll see... :P
