Ushuaia is the port city in Argentina/Patagonia where majority of Antarctic expedition ships depart from and as result its where you usually stay if you have a few days between contracts/ships. Lucky enough for me, I have a colleague and friend who is staying in Ushuaia and waiting for the same ship I am for the next 5 days. This means I got an adventure buddy to go on hikes with in the surrounding area of Ushuaia.
Yesterday we went to a place called the Emerald Lagoon, which is about a 8 mile hike from start to finish that takes you up to a glacier lake. Well, it is a stunning hike and really really quite muddy, which I think is all part of the fun of hiking in remote regions. The one thing was that we had to be back in 3.5 hours to catch our bus back to Ushuaia, which meant we had to hustle pretty good on this hike. For anyone wanting to go on this hike in Ushuaia it is quite easy with only a small incline and with a clearly marked path the entire way. Just make sure you pick a nice day weather wise for it, as the views a long the way are incredible and keep in mind they recommend it takes about 2 hours each way to walk.
Once up at the end of the hike there is a stunning glacial river that flows with some small waterfalls along the way. It means for a great opportunity to take some photos and attempt some long exposure shots as well. It was quite light out whilst I was attempting some of these photos and only got a couple of ones that I actually liked. hope you enjoy them too
