Every traveler dreams of finding one… An hidden gem, a unique, special place none knows… A piece of Paradise on Earth, untouched by the masses… We @travelingstories want to share with you these special places, so you can wonder at them like we did!

This time, we’ll talk about this beauty… Melissani Cave!

Melissani Cave is a cave located near the town of Sami, on the East side of the Ionian island of Kefalonia – a beautiful place we’ve been covering on steemit recently. This cave has an opening on the ceiling that lets the sunlight enter and illuminate a wide lake of brackish water, due to the proximity to the sea (at about 300 meters).

In this cave, you can make a small boat trip around, take beautiful photos and wonder this special place, which was discovered after an earthquake had teared the roof down. On the surface, it is surrounded by green area and a parking lot with a supporting building where you can eat, drink and buy souvenirs. The price for the boat trip is 7€!

We strongly recommend that you arrive right before noon, specially in the summer, so you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the sun at its peak and the amazing show you can watch down there, on a boat, over crystal-clear water!
