in travel •  7 years ago

Well, and here we @travelingstories are again, ready for another post of a place that you shouldn’t miss, specially if you’re visiting the beautiful city of Krakow, in Poland: the Wieliczka Salt Mine!

Okay… Ready? Great, then brace yourself, because we’re going 327 meters down!

In case you get lost, just find a phone like this one! 😊

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is located in the town of Wieliczka, just about 20 minutes from Krakow, by train. This mine produced table salt since it opened in the 13th century, making it one of the oldest salt mines of the world.

Since it stopped producing table salt, in 2007, due to economic reasons, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was transformed in a Museum, in which you can get a feeling of what it was to be a miner in these lands.

The mine is really big, extending a network of tunnels for 287 kilometers, at a maximum depth of 327 meters. You can visit guided by a guide and there are several routes you can try.

The ticket price starts at roughly 20 € (for adults and depending on the exchange rate against the Polish złoty) and you will be also able to talk to the miners…

Or at least… To try 😊

Hope you enjoyed the post and that you visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine! Oh and don’t forget to upvote the post, reesteemit and follow us and… Get back for the second part of this post, where we go further down in the mine! 😊
