VADUZ – One of Europes smallest Capitals [EN/DE]

Hello, guys! Today I would like to show you a European capital, which probably only a few of you have visited already. I think many of you have no idea about it at all and maybe some don't even know the name. Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein, a small country between Austria and Switzerland. With just under 5,500 inhabitants, you can be sure that you won't be able to do a sightseeing tour for several days there. Nevertheless, you can find some interesting attractions, such as the Government House that you can see on the picture above, or the City Hall that is located right next to it.

Hallo Leute! Heute möchte ich euch eine europäische Hauptstadt vorstellen, die wohl nur recht wenige von euch schon mal besucht haben. Viele haben wahrscheinlich gar keine Vorstellung davon und einigen wird wohl nicht mal der Name etwas sagen. Vaduz ist die Hauptstadt von Liechtenstein, einem Zwergstaat zwischen Österreich und der Schweiz. Mit gerade mal knapp 5.500 Einwohnern könnt ihr euch sicher denken, dass ihr dort keine mehrtägige Sightseeingtour machen könnt. Dennoch gibt es ein paar interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie zum Beispiel das Regierungsgebäude, das ihr auf dem obigen Foto sehen könnt, oder das Landhaus, das sich direkt daneben befindet.

St. Florin Cathedral, built in neo-Gothic style, is the largest church in Vaduz and like all places worth seeing, it's within walking distance. By the way, Liechtenstein is not part of the EU, but it is a Schengen country, so you can enter from Austria and Switzerland without passport control.

Die im neugotischen Stil erbaute Kathedrale St. Florin ist die größte Kirche in Vaduz und lässt sich, wie alle sehenswerten Orte, bequem zu Fuß erreichen. Liechtenstein gehört übrigens nicht zu EU, ist aber ein Schengen-Staat, ihr könnt also sowohl von Österreich, als auch aus der Schweiz ohne Passkontrolle einreisen.

Vaduz Castle is the landmark and main attraction of the city. The ascent is quite exhausting, so you should take your time if you want to see the castle from close up. However, the building is not open to the public as it is privately owned. Unfortunately, there is no possibility to visit the interiors.

Das Schloss Vaduz ist das Wahrzeichen und die Hauptsehenswürdigkeit der Stadt. Der Aufstieg ist recht anstrengend, man sollte sich also Zeit lassen, wenn man das Schloss aus der Nähe sehen will. Allerdings ist das Gebäude für die Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich, da es sich in Privatbesitz befindet. Es gibt leider keine Möglichkeit, die Innenräume zu besichtigen.

The ascent is nevertheless worthwhile, as you will find some nice viewpoints along the way, which offer you an overview of this small town and the beautiful surrounding countryside. By the way, the official language is German, which makes Lichtenstein the smallest German-speaking country in the world.

Der Aufstieg lohnt sich trotzdem, da ihr unterwegs einige schöne Aussichtspunkte findet, die euch einen Überblick, über dieses kleine Städtchen und die wunderschöne, umgebende Landschaft bieten. Offizielle Amtssprache ist übrigens Deutsch, somit ist Lichtenstein der kleinste deutschsprachige Staat der Welt.

In addition to some other interesting buildings, there are a few museums and a nice pedestrian zone where you can hopefully enjoy the sunny weather during your visit. By the way, you cannot reach Vaduz by plane - there is no airport in Liechtenstein. I recommend you a day trip from Zurich. The city is easily accessible by train and bus via Sargans and you don't even need to change money, as the Swiss franc is the national currency in Lichtenstein.

Neben einigen weiteren interessanten Gebäuden, gibt es noch ein paar Museen und eine nette kleine Fußgängerzone, in der ihr das, bei eurem Besuch, hoffentlich sonnige Wetter genießen könnt. Erreichen könnt ihr Vaduz übrigens nicht per Flugzeug – es gibt keinen Flughafen in Liechtenstein. Ich empfehle euch einen Tagesausflug von Zürich. Die Stadt ist bequem per Zug und Bus über Sargans erreichbar und ihr braucht nicht mal Geld zu wechseln, da der Schweizer Franken auch in Lichtenstein die offizielle Landeswährung ist.
