Kiribati: The Most Isolated Tropical Island In The World!

This is Kiribati, and it could quite possibly be the world's most isolated tropical paradise.

It's a beautiful, tropical island surrounded by idyllic, clear water and incredible coral. Yet almost no one visits Kiribati.

And that's because it's so isolated. Kiribati is not an easy- or for that matter cheap- destination to reach.

Found in the middle of the Pacific, there are just a few flights a week from Australia or Fiji, and even less boats and the odd cruise ship calling into the harbour.

Once there though, tourists might just find they have the whole island to themselves and a few locals.

Kiribati gained independence from the United Kingdom in just 1979. It's a young country and was previously known as the Gilbert Islands before switching back to a more native name.

Out in the middle of the Pacific, the few travellers that do make it here have limited hotel, accommodation and eating options. Supplies are hard to come by or have to flown or shipped in from afar, so it's back to a simpler way of life for many who make it here.

Because it's so out the way, many travellers will visit Kiribati just to say they have been, or in attempts to visit every country in the world. But really, there is much more here than just a hard to reach detinations.

It might be isolated, but Kiribati is still a tropical paradise, with 20 different atolls and islands spread across a large area of ocean.

Unfortunately, travellers might not have that much longer left to visit little unknown Kiribati.

With sea water levels rising, some islands are already being completely submerged, and many more will be lost over the next decades.

Eventually, there may not be much left at all of Kiribati, this isolated tropical paradise.

Is there an exact forecast when Kiribati will be swallowed by the sea?
