Spartans Invade The City of Sin With No Regrets - Adventures in Pattaya

in travel •  7 years ago

Truth is, I've been avoiding Pattaya for ages. I've heard so many stories and I honestly didn't really have any reason to go there until this last trip to Thailand. I reunited with an old friend @seapilot from Canada and we left the City of Angels to the City of Sin. Now, I guess you're wondering what made me change my mind?

I've been working with the Spartan Race since April 2016 and was super stoked when they invited me to Emcee for the first ever Spartan Race Thailand. After holding it down in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia for just over a year it was a welcome escape and finally the excuse I needed to explore Pattaya. Well.. Not right away, as the venue for the race was a good 16KM out of the city at the Siam Country Club.

Big shout out to my co-host Danny, who just the night before was in Phuket hosting a Muay Thai fight on TV (which I happened to randomly see over a late dinner and drinks) He really brought the energy and the translations cause my Thai language skills aren't really up to par yet! Despite an attempt by mother nature to put an end to the race, we managed to get through it with very few hiccups and a lot of sweat!

I wasn't impressed by the beach and although I brought my swim shorts, I didn't bother jumping in the ocean here. I did of course want to get the photo op! This is the brother @seapilot who kept me company on this journey with loads of conversation about Crypto and Blockchain. If you ever need a Domain registered he's the man!

Right around the corner from our hotel was what we liked to call "Regret Alley". After having experienced (almost) all of what Bangkok has to offer I was blown away by how aggressive the women were, especially down "Regret Alley". We explored until we found a quite place to eat on an adjacent street while avoiding the entanglements that lay before us.

I was definitely discreet with the photo taking, not wanting to risk anything other than fulfilling my curiosity. We had a few drinks over some footie and took the plunge at one of the bars, mainly to have some interesting conversation with the ladies and catch a glimpse of their livelihood. Since food has been a major part of the trip I do have to inform you about the amazing all-night kebab spot in "Regret Alley" that you wont regret at all! In fact it was so good we had it two nights in a row!

I was really in need of a massage but didn't want anything seedy or with a "happy ending" so google took me down the road for 1.5 hrs of pure bliss. I slept like a baby. In the morning before catching the ride straight back to DMK we had coffee in this cute spot that offered many different services that could be paid for in Bitcoin. In fact earlier in Pattaya Sea paid for his beer in Bitcoin. Bitcoin is taking over!

It was a jam-packed mini vacation full of exciting adventures and crypto-talk that couldn't have gone any better. I doubt I'll be back in Pattaya again unless it's for work of course, but I look forward to my next trip to Bangkok (I prefer the Angels of course).
