Trip to Nantou Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Park. Sweet

Today, I took a little day trip to the Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Park. It was amazing. The displays were so amazingly lifelike. Even better, I had the distinct opportunity to learn a bit about Taiwan's history. So take a trip with me.

Having just arrived at park after a terrifying gondola ride. I have vertigo. Just had to take a pic here to start the day. Now let us visit some of the customs and legends of Taiwan's Aboriginal's. Lets take a look at the culture of the Palwan's, Bunun's, and Puyuma's.

Palwan wedding ceremony here displaying the bride's tears indicating her exit from youth to womanhood. Leaving all unsuccessful suitors in past, along with her friends. Shown here by the people seated around her.

Palwan Witch doctor. Seeking the village sorcerer and sorceress to conjure up their powers to heal the sick and dispel disease.

With a set social class system in place. Your status was determined by birth. However, through the acquisition of achievements you could rise through the ranks. These achievements were shown by clothing-like ornaments. For instance, the lily represents a very successful boar hunter, a crown of reeds is a bear killer.

The Puyuma's Monkey Rite. The youth had to attend the stabbing of a monkey to instill in them courage and fortitude.

The Sun Hunter, a legend of the Bunun Tribe. A tale of two suns and unbearable heat which drove the hunter to blind one of the suns turning it into a moon.

These are just a few examples of the what the park had to offer. Actually, I wish I had more time to examine and learn more about the history and their stories. So, if you are in Nantou don't forget to drop by. Plus there is also a theme park.
