Odessa is a kind of city. Here even beggars can live like kings. At the same time, monarchs are mere mortals. To this day, in the vicinity of the famous Privoz, there are many buildings and corners that keep a lot of secrets and unsolved mysteries. There are places that many tourists will love. But the guides don't go there. There is only one thing left - to tell yourself. One of these places is the Old (First) cemetery. Now - Preobrazhensky Park. A large number of almshouses operated there. Houses of contempt can make a whole city! This house (complex) will be discussed now. What is remarkable about the unremarkable structure? Let's open the veil of secrecy.

Charity houses

At the beginning of the 19th century, beggars from all over the South of the Empire began to flock to Odessa. They understood that in the new, young resort town they could find food. At one point, the Odessa authorities realized that the situation was getting out of control. The number of beggars is growing steadily. We urgently need to solve this problem.

In 1828, a decision was made to build the first almshouse. Oleg Gubar, a historian and ethnographer, pointed out that the entire city collected funds for the construction of this institution. Elena Klenovskaya became the first major investor. She donated 6 thousand rubles. A little later, the women's corps received her name. Among the patrons are the Vorontsov couple, Countess Lanzheron, General Naryshkin, and so on.

Facility development

The number of beggars, homeless people, vagabonds and retirees deprived of care was growing. Along with the increase in their number, new buildings of the almshouse began to appear. In the 80s of the 19th century, two large departments appeared: Maasovsky and Pokrovsky. These buildings face the turn to Bulgarian.

In 1893, in the depths of the territory, the Dontsov branch appeared. This part was built and designed by Todorov. Dontsov himself, a retired warrant officer, donated 25 thousand for the construction and arrangement of this building. In terms of luxury, the building did not differ much from the famous estates on French Boulevard.

Almshouse in our time

In 1987, all the buildings of the nursing home were recognized as a historical heritage, an architectural monument of local importance. In theory, thanks to this status, the city authorities should keep an eye on the entire complex. But alas, the authorities do not always care about such magnificent historical monuments.

The important thing is that this complex is gradually declining. Local residents say that even public utilities do not drop in here. The janitor was seen in the days of the USSR. All work on the arrangement, repair and cleaning has to be done on our own. But, there is an aspect. Despite the efforts and efforts of those who live here, this territory does not always radiate prosperity. Only a few buildings show the original architectural features. Many are trying to bypass this territory. On the one hand, this is not surprising. Since not every homeless person is harmless. Let's hope that space does not turn into another habitat for ghosts and demons. Although, there are a lot of victims. Ghosts roam, as no one forgets about the cemetery!
