Travel Blog - December 2nd 2017 - A Walk in the Hills of West Horsley, Surrey, England

in travelog •  7 years ago  (edited)

I’m English, currently based in Bangkok, but I’m now in the UK visiting the family for two weeks. They live in Surrey.

I had the bright idea of flying home a little before Christmas to avoid the rush, higher prices, and possible terrorist attacks.

I’ve decided to put Steemit to ‘proper’ use, and start a written blog (journal) here, bucking the trend somewhat of video blogs.

The plan is to post something daily, including pictures taken during the day, but it’s pretty unlikely. We’ll see. I’m hoping that a more personal ‘travel’ blog will encourage me to be more observant and to document and photograph more.

This blog will be focused on my experiences and thoughts as I meander through the world as a man in my thirties and beyond. Perhaps - at the very least - this will come in use one day as I look back on my records as a withered old man.

More about me will be revealed through each consecutive post, so make sure you stay subscribed here.

My writing on creativity and productivity aimed at independent artists and writers can be found at Red Lemon Club and my Medium profile.

I’m using my iPhone 6 for taking pictures, but I may get a more heavy duty camera if this starts taking off and I feel the need for something more powerful. Leica cameras look so cool, but are they really necessary, beyond satisfying my camera greed?

I’ve been earning some decent gains in my cryptocurrency investments, so maybe it’s something I can soon afford after all if they continue to go up.

I’ve been in England for five days, and today the family and I took the black labrador Josie for a walk in the countryside of West Horsley. Here are some pictures I took.

Excuse the quality. I'm getting to grips with taking photographs with little planning...

I love how different England in the winter is to the high-stimulus textures of Bangkok. It makes a calming change.

Colours seem to have been drained out of the landscape, but it gives the environment a spooky and interesting vibe - one that gets my creative juices going.

It’s like walking through the film: Sleepy Hollow.

More to come soon.
