Help the Old Guy Identify a Tree Edition
I hope every one is having a decent week so far. Here in Michigan it has been rain, rain, and rain!! Every. Single. Day! I feel like I have been transplanted to the Pacific Northwest! LOL
The leaves from the mystery tree.
So this is the tree that is on the lakeside of the house. It is always in my shots or videos. I have no idea what kind of tree it is. I do know not many years my neighbor cut it down and it sprang up with a vengeance! They say it is a Mulberry. I am not sure why the don't like the tree. The critters seem to love it. That is a squirrel nest I believe in the top. I refuse now to let them cut it because my bird lives in it. You can hear him here!!! He is really cool LOL. Not everyone has a personal bird LOL.
Here is a shot of the bark if that helps.
I know my friend @haphazard-hstead knows all about wild plants, so she may know. If you like to see how to find wild plants to eat, she is the place to go to!
Here is a shot from the water. I mean it is big, but not that obnoxious is it? LOL. All I know is my bird love it. He comes back every year, so the tree is staying !
My other neighbor's tree is looking nice and all white with flowers!
He may have a fancy tree, but he doesn't have a personal bird LOL!!

I think it is an elm tree, judging by the leaves. If the bird likes it, I say you should keep it. I don't know many people with personal birds that are captive.
Happy #TreeTuesday and I see you got a nice shot of your house by the lake. Nice to be able to stroll down the steps and walk right into the fun.
Our video at the end was funny and thanks for cutting out the bad parts. :)

The leaf from the mystery tree came out so well, nice shot and hehe your bird chose the tree that sprung up in vengeance🤗.

That sure looks like an elm to me. Those leaves are good in a salad! And the seeds, too, when they are green. I had a post last spring about eating Siberian elm seeds in a salad. And here's a video with a wild salad made from 11 different different weeds and trees - including an American elm, and another salad with Elm leaves, too. But even if it's a mulberry, their leaves are good to eat in a salad, too!
Do you ever see berries fall from the tree? Or does it get papery seeds that are flat and shaped like a circle? I've tried 16 ways to convince myself that your neighbors can think this is a mulberry tree, but I just can't. I'm looking at how the veins in the leaf go out to the edges, and the form of the tree, like you are standing and reaching up and out with your arms. That's all elm!

Hi there :) I think your tree may be a water-loving Alder. Does it make catkins and then little mini-cones? Around here, we get White Alders growing in the creeks, but that kind has smooth bark. Alders are cousins of the Birch.

Howdy. I'm voting in the Elm camp on the tree. I'm also voting on the 'leave the tree standing' camp, since I love trees, you can always just fall it into the lake when it's time, and your buddy the bird lives there. We all need our own personal bird. The world would be a better place for it. Love it. Had my own personal pigeon for awhile, when I was much shorter, years ago. I love the bird sound....altho I can imagine how annoying it would be early in the morning. I have one around in the morning too - mourning doves are good....but there is one singing bird that drives me batty in the morning. Not sure what it is either.
There is an app somewhere that you can use from your phone to identify plants and trees. I'm not sure which one to use but I've seen them work. I also wonder if Siri knows. She knows all :)
