Tree Tuesday - Finally, We Meet!

in treetuesday •  7 years ago

There is a stretch of road on Hwy 46 connecting Lost Hills with Paso Robles that I have driven dozens of times when going back and forth to L.A. It is a lovely trek with views of rolling (and some not so rolling) farmland. At the moment, the nut and fruit trees are on the verge of bursting with blooms...joyful, happy sigh.

Over the years, I seem to have developed a connection with this one particular tree that I notice almost every time I make this trip. I always would think I should stop and take a moment or two to get acquainted but it was never the right time or it was unsafe...this is a two lane road at this point and everyone is moving at break-neck speeds because they've got to get where they're going as fast as possible!!! (I have certainly been guilty of that myself.) Well, today, the stars aligned, I stopped the car and the rest is history! Behold her beauty!!!

I took a series of shots and played with different looks, filters and compositions. I am starting with some black and white drama here although, this tree is quite the diva and all of the shots are pretty dramatic.

Hwy 46 Tree 1.jpg
This tree sits up above the road and I always imagine she is watching over me and my fellow travelers, wishing us well on our respective journeys.

Hwy 46 Tree 3.jpg
I am curious about what this tree has seen over the years. Back in the day, was there a house here that enjoyed her shade during those sizzling summer days?

Hwy 46 Tree 4.jpg
I explored her spookier side with this edit. I even got a little friend to join in the fun

Hwy 46 Tree 5.jpg
And finally, here she is as pure and simple as I saw her with my own eyes. Golden hills and intensely blue sky are my absolute favorite backdrop...yet another joyful, happy sigh.

I am so glad I took some time to smell the root rot on this beautiful day! It only took a few minutes out of my drive time but it was well worth it. I am curious to know which look you think best fits this diva tree and plus, I think she deserves a name...any suggestions? Leave me a comment below.

Loving the edits. That crow was working the camera lol

Thank you so much! I did have to chase that crow around a bit but I did get a few shots. :D

Was a particular fan of the highly sharpened images. She is a beauty.

I really enjoy those too. Thanks for weighing in!

Those were really nice. My favorite one was the one with the greyish edit, a beige gray background made the tree really pop. Peace friend.

It did pop, didn't it? I was surprised how much I liked that particular edit...that old-timey, sepia look isn't usually my thing but I think this tree wanted to be seen like that. I believe I have bonded so much with this beauty that I can interpret its preferences...hmmm, what does that mean? :D

such character in all these tree's

All that character is in one tree..I love that!

Thanks for stopping by, Jay!

So much character from all angles

They are all nice but number 2 is my favorite. Full colour.
You know, one tree standing alone is usually a marker of some kind.
I'll call it Mark! lol

Thanks stopping by offering your opinion. That photo was the very first one I took...I like it very much.

Your idea for the name is perfect! :D Thanks for that too!

I love it, it (she, you said she so a dryad it is) deserved the spotlight. I am also drawn to solitary trees, fellow tree hugger here. Beautiful photography. Glad you could stop this time to capture its magic.

I am so glad you love it! I usually characterize animals as "he" for some reason. I don't think I have ever referred to a tree as a she but it just seemed right. I had never heard the word dryad before you used it in an earlier comment. I had to look it up...you are helping to make me smarter! :D

Thanks for stopping by, checking out my post and leaving such a lovely comment!

It was my pleasure :) And well now you can see "her" as a dryad too, she was calling you finally "listened"

FINALLY! That seems to be the theme of my life these days!

I love that first one with the gorgeous detail!!! The sepia one is brilliant! Great shots all!

Thank you so much. I just passed this tree again yesterday on my way home. Several trees in the general area have fallen down so I'm glad I took the time to get those shots.
