Trek to AMK hills - dream trek

in trek •  7 years ago  (edited)

The AMK trio is an abbreviation for Alang, Madan and Kulang hills which are located in the Sahyadri range. The average height of these hills is 4,800 ft.
It was an overnight trek for two days as you have to cover 3 hills. we began our journey at around 6 AM in the morning. I had been to other trekking event and had completed 4-5 of them which were of average complexity and this was high endurance trek and I had no idea what was high endurance but I was prepared for some fun and exciting weekend.

Initially it was a flat field stretched for couple of miles and then there was huge wall and I was like
"Oh god! I guess we took the wrong route."

and I am on my strong vocals asking the guys to turn around.
The trek lead comes to my rescue and says
"Hey! man what's wrong"
I said there's no way to go ahead.

with a smile he says man, this is what we have to climb, and reach the top of the summit.

trust me that was the most difficult decision I every had to make, I was in a dilemma, as I have height phobia.
I pulled my guts and said "Lets climb"

Throughout the journey to summit we had to traverse through the narrow lanes, climb rocks using harness, slide through a patch of slope area,
rappelling, climb through the smallest stairs ever seen.

For me it was the craziest trek I have ever been to not because of the steepness
of the hill but the narrow passages we had to traverse. they were so narrow one couldn't
turn around or look back. at some points the steps are broken - there is a history behind these
broken steps, during the time of war the Britishers had blasted the stairs. The broken steps are so
so small that one could only just place half of your shoe or may be full by cross keeping.
I always wonder how the people in old days used to travel/climb. they had to commute every day from top to bottom and then back for their various activities. It is said that they even use to climb the hill on horse back . It looks scary even to hear. But I guess they were used to it. They were born in that environment and might have been normal for those guys. Yes when you compare the comfort we have with those guys, it gives you goosebumps.

But once you reach the top of the hill its a treat for your eyes. One of the most beautiful scenic view one could witness. We halted on Alang for our night stay in a cave where we could easily see the sun drowning behind the horizon. And the other most amazing thing was we cooked food on firewood like the old days, re-creating the history

Wow, it looks dangerous. I wonder how you managed to balance with just a small Knob to hold on. The Curve looks like it was a Volcanic Eruption a few million years ago.

Do post these pics on your Instagram too, they look amazing.

yeah that was very terrifying but I didn't had any choice. So I kept on going slowly and cautiously. But now when I look back it was amazing and I would love to visit again.
