My Visit to a Gold Mine

in trip •  8 years ago  (edited)

Located in the city of Ouro Preto, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Last week of 2016 I went on a trip with my sister and brother-in-law, here are some of the pictures and a few curiosities about the mine :D

I hope you guys enjoy.

Gold Mine (translated from Portuguese "Mina de Ouro")

Mine Entrance

When it raining season, there's points in the mine get full of water
in the picture above the arrow marks the point where the water fill's up in the caves

The first point in the mine (picture above) have 4 meters of water in the daily basis but it reaches 7 meters in the raining season making impossible for the visits to the mine to happen.

Quicksand - The arrow marks the point the water reachers when it rains

The second point in the mine the fills up with water in the raining season it's also full with quicksand.

The color patterns in the walls of the mine are because of the high concentration of Iron Ore in this region.

Cool report, its tough to get good cave pictures, but you have shown it well. Always makes we want to go do some more caving when I see reports like this. Thanks for sharing!

yeah @unipsycho, the luminosity down there was terrible, so had to make a few adjustments to get the best as I could.

Those gold miners have done a lot of work, that's for sure! Is the mine still in operation, or is it more of a tourist venue now?

@haphazard-hstead more of a tourist venue now, but you're right a lot of work they have done down there, also in the explanation by the guide there, that mine was worked by slaves back in the day and based on the concentration of Iron Ore in the rocks I can only imagine how hard would have been to work there to extract the gold.

It's hard to imagine how hard some people had to work in the past. I don't know how they kept going. It's good to see their work and try to appreciate their situation, for sure.

nice pitcure!

thanks :D
