I wanted to add a couple things that I do each day to progressively overload my brains activity. Audiobooks and podcasts have been a really great addition because they can fill so much of the white space. Car rides, house chores, gym time (if I don't need motivational music :p ) etc...
And something that might go along with problem-solving is difficult conversations, stepping out of your comfort zone, talking to more people, new and old, especially if you don't want to! I find myself engaging in conversation with strangers and old friends and it actively works on that social part of my life.
