Sorry folks - Trump is NOT stupid. He is illiterate and deliberately ignorant of most matters of state and law. Inheriting $100 million made it possible for him to consistently ignore the law, and just hire more lawyers when he was sued, charged and/or indicted.
After dozens of deals where he barely broke even by cheating investors, banks, contractors, employees and declaring bankruptcy, he found something he was good at: attracting a TV audience. He was a caricature of a businessman in real life, which made him great fodder for delusions of what a businessman does for a blue collar audience.
He worked hard at "The Apprentice", checking the Nielsen ratings in the wee hours after every show aired. His free-wheeling, narcissistic temper tantrums were entertainment for the masses that formed his core, and he learned exactly what captured eyeballs.
Unfortunately, he runs the country the same way, as if his tour of duty in the White House was another un-reality show, "Geo-Political Apprentice". He has given more long, rambling press releases on camera (press farts? press performances?) than the other 44 Presidents combined.
