Trust in God: I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. Psalm 16:7

Psalm 16 is a psalm about the importance of the trust or the confidence in God. In the Old Testament, the concept of faith, as it is understood in the Christian faith, does not exist, because God in the history of the people of Israel manifests himself or makes himself evident to man directly through miracles or wonders such as the opening of the Red Sea in front of Moses, through the word of the prophets, or through dreams.
When Moses was sent to see Pharaoh, Moses had no faith, Moses trusted God because God had a promise to keep, and that promise was the salvation of the people of Israel. King David trusted God, and was guided by the creator in all his actions and came out triumphant. The trust in God is related to the certainty and the deep knowledge of the spiritual realities.
That is why Psalm 16 begins with a very true statement, the Lord is everything for those who fear him, and those who trust in false gods fail:
"I say to the LORD, ´You are my Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing.´
I say of the holy people who are in the land,
´They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.´
Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.
I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
or take up their names on my lips." Psalm 16:2-4.
The Lord is a God of the living and not of the dead, the Psalm tells us because whoever puts his full trust in him receives his spiritual advice and guidance, as King David and his son King Solomon did:
"I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the LORD.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken" Psalm 16:7-8.
This devotional Psalm ends by teaching us that God's ways are ways of happiness, joy, longevity, and all that life brings, the eternal wisdom blesses her children, that is, those who follow her with true devotion:
"You make known to me the path of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence,
with eternal pleasures at your right hand" Psalm 16:11.
