Tubal ligation?

in tuballigation •  last year

Tubal ligation, commonly known as "getting your tubes tied," is a surgical procedure that involves closing or blocking the fallopian tubes to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus and, consequently, preventing fertilization. This procedure is a form of female sterilization and is considered a permanent method of contraception.

During a tubal ligation:

Access to the Fallopian Tubes: The surgeon gains access to the fallopian tubes, which are the tubes that transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.

Closing or Blocking the Tubes: Different methods may be used to close or block the tubes. This can include tying them off with sutures, sealing them with clips or rings, or cutting and cauterizing (sealing with heat) a portion of the tubes. The goal is to prevent eggs from meeting sperm.

Preventing Fertilization: By blocking or closing the fallopian tubes, the procedure aims to prevent the union of sperm and egg, thus avoiding pregnancy.
