The Big Bang Theory is done (the show, not the acutal theory)

After 12 years and nearly 300 episodes, one of the most successful sitcoms of all time wrapped up the series yesterday on the 16th of May, 2019. I, for one, am happy they decided to do this and even though it didn't make financial sense (show was still making a lot of money despite dwindling ratings,) the creative decision to "quit while we are ahead" is something I truly admire.

If you are like me, you got sick of The Big Bang Theory quite some time ago. The show started out really fresh and it was a novel approach to sitcoms but as time went by the "hey we got this group of nerdy yet incredibly smart people that have difficulty interacting socially but their hot and kinda dumb next door neighbor is a socialite" got a little old and boring. I think it took me about 3 seasons to start to feel this way.

If you are like me, i found the part where Leonard actually did start dating and later marry Penny to be right around where I lost interest. This was true for me with Frasier as well. Nigel's obsession with the unobtainable hot housekeeper of Frasier's (was her name Daphne?) was the best part of the show and after that tension no longer existed the show lost a lot of the appeal.

Anyway, they had to introduce other romances once Leonard "sealed the deal" and none of those particularly appealed to me.

Sheldon was undeniably the star of the show and Jim Parsons is a truly gifted person. He plays a 20 something on the show (later a 30 something because the series went on for over a decade)

Jim Parsons is an anomaly for sure. He is currently 46 years old but still maintains a very young appearance. When the show began he was 34 playing a 20 year old. That is tough to pull off. The other cast members were also meant to be younger than they really are but Parsons was truly exceptional as far as the fountain of youth is concerned.

Some beloved TV shows of mine (most noteworthy in my mind is LOST) ruined their legacy by keeping the story going too long for the sake of squeezing as much money out of the series as possible. I stopped watching The Big Bang Theory many seasons ago because it became a bit boring to me and after season 11's dismal (relatively) ratings the big-wigs over at CBS made a decision to make season 12 the last one. As far as "going out on a high note" is concerned, I think it was a good idea and I believe it was the correct choice.

I've actually never watched this show which is pretty surprising to me given the fact that I am a relatively socially awkward nerd myself. Probably not anywhere near the brain capacity of the characters on here though. People I know are always surprised that I don't watch it. I guess I just have other more interesting stuff to watch. I dunno. I never watched How I Met Your Mother either. I was a huge Friends geek in the day though.

Friends was and is the shizzle. I still gladly re-watch episodes of it over and over again. It seems (at least for now) to have tremendous rewatch value. I believe friends was much more popular than BBT but this had a lot to do with the fact that streaming stuff online didn't really exist back in the days when it was on the air. TV was king back then and people bought the DVD's in droves (I know I did.)

The cast of Friends at the end was making a million each per episode and that made the budget of each episode of friends almost as expensive as most episodes of Game of Thrones. Amazing.

That is pretty amazing. They were definitely able to keep things fresh. When you were talking about the couple finally getting together and things going downhill I immediately thought of Scorpion. Thank goodness that got cancelled. It is surprising that the guy it was based on allowed Auch a suspension of reality.

I agree that it needed to end when it did.

I loved the show in the beginning but then it became a show I let play in the background while I worked. Not laugh out loud anymore but more of a comfort program to chuckle to.
