The Defenders Episode 4 Review – No Spoilers

Alright I am slightly intrigued.

This episode opens the mythos of the wars between the hand and the chased. We only get basic information and not in an interesting way. There is some mystery around the Iron Fist and how the Hand can use him, but honestly, I don't feel emotionally invested. Surprisingly, it's not Danny Rand's fault. I love Sigourney Viber, but we barely see her in this show. I know that we should feel some sympathy towards her character, but I don’t. Occasionally she’s just there and she’s impressive and she impressively wears cheap Versace knockoff. But as a character, as the leader of the Hand, I don't find Alexandra to be impressive at all. It's Marvel-Netflix fault that has got me used to high standard in villains like the Kingpin. For now, she's not there.

My MVP for this episode again is Jessica Jones. She always says exactly what I think about this show. Well, aside from the alcoholic sociopath parts. When she comments about the other characters and the events going on around her, that when I love her the most. Also, her fighting style is exactly right for her powers, evasions and force. I usually don't notice such things, but it is so different from the rest of the characters, and different from the last episode where she was really bad at evasion. But her best moment for me is the end of the episode, the way she shows up made me laugh and clap my hands at the TV screen for the first time during this show.

Luke Cage redeemed himself in this episode in my eyes by being reasonable, while Danny acts like the spoiled child that he says that he is not. Still, my second favorite character is Matt Murdock. His chemistry with Jessica is great, but his grief makes him a very compelling character.

I like the way this episode ended, I hope the show is moving in the correct direction.

I give it a 8/10. Just because of Jessica Jones.
